The 2021 Six Nations Championship odds opened in late November with defending-champion England as sizable favorites. But England never recovered from its opening-round setback and Wales and France went on to battle for the title.
The main graph on this page was generated by calculating the average Six Nations Championship odds from online sportsbooks at varying points in time, both pre-tournament and mid-tournament.
2021 Six Nations Championship Top Contenders
- March 23: France’s 32-30 win over Wales left them five points back of Wales in the table with one match to play. If France beat Scotland by 21 points and score four tries, they will win the Six Nations. If France win by 19 or fewer, Wales wins the trophy. If France wins by exactly 20 (and scores four tries), the tiebreaker becomes total tries scored, where Wales currently leads by five.
- Mar. 15: France lost a 23-20 at England while Wales pounded Italy 48-7. Wales is now on 19 points with one match to play (at France); France is on 10 points with two to play. If France gets the maximum five points from its final two matches, they can get to 20. But if Wales gets a single bonus point from their final match (either for scoring four-plus tries or keeping the score within seven points), they are virtually guaranteed to win. The first tiebreaker is point differential where Wales (+63) leads France (+39) by 24 points.
- Mar. 1: Wales (-103) crushed England, 40-24, at home, improving their record to 3-0. They remain slightly behind France (-126) in the odds, even though the French had their match with Scotland postponed (new date TBD) because of a COVID outbreak. It’s unclear whether the France vs Scotland match will ever be played and whether a tournament champion will be crowned.
- Feb. 16: After edging Ireland away (15-13), France is now the odds-on favorite to win the tournament at -172; Scotland’s odds plummeted from +408 to +1450.
- Feb. 9, 2021: Scotland beat England (11-6) away to throw the 2021 Six Nations championship odds into complete disarray. France is now the heavy favorite (+119) after crushing Italy (50-10) on Matchday 1.
- Jan. 7, 2021: The top three – England (+113), France (+235), and Ireland (+360) – all shortened, while the bottom three – Wales (+1175), Scotland (+1775), and Italy (+48750) – all faded.
- Dec. 1, 2020: England has opened as a +117 favorite (on average) to win the 2021 Six Nations. France is a distant second-favorite at +255.
