Notes on the NASCAR Cup odds movement over the course of the season include:
- [Nov 4]: We have our final four drivers! Ryan Blaney’s win yesterday at the Xfinity 500 clinched his place in the Championship 4, along side Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron, who qualified with the highest point total. Blaney opens at +155 to repeat as NASCAR Cup Champion, ahead of Logano (+285), Byron (+320), and Reddick (+325).
- [Sep 23]: Kyle Larson remains as the +400 favorite after dominating the final Round of 16 race in Bristol, where he led the most laps, swept all the stages, and ultimately took the checkered flag. Knocked out of the NASCAR Cup Playoffs are Ty Gibbs, Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr., and Harrison Burton.
- [Sep 4]: We have our final sixteen drivers! Chase Briscoe snuck in at the last possible moment with his win at the Southern 500. When the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs begin next Sunday, everyone will be chasing the current favorite, Kyle Larson (+380).
- [Aug 26]: A shock win at Daytona last week has launched Harrison Burton up the odds table. Despite sitting 34th in the driver’s standings, Burton’s win at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 solidified his place in the NASCAR Cup playoffs, shortening his odds overnight from +150000 to +10000.
- [Aug 15]: NASCAR officials ruled Austin Dillon will not keep the playoff eligibility he earned for winning the Cook Out 400, after crashing both Logano and Hamlin on the race’s final lap. Dillon (+25000) gets to keep his win, but will need another to make the playoffs.
- [Aug 12]: With three races to go before the playoffs there’s a logjam at the top of the odds table. Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, and Denny Hamlin are all averaging +400 odds to win the NASCAR Cup, while books also have Martin Truex Jr and Tyler Reddick, both averaging +1400, right in the mix.
- [Jul 15]: Despite two recent sub-thirtieth finishes that have dropped him down to eighth in the standings, Christopher Bell is still getting odds as short as +400 to win the NASCAR Cup. In contrast, current points-leader Chase Elliott is priced at +1100 to win the Driver’s Championship.
- [Jun 10]: Kyle Larson has passed Denny Hamlin on the odds table after picking up his third win of the season at the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Larson is now getting +350 to win the cup, while Hamlin fell back to +400.
- [May 6]: There’s a lot to unpack following Kyle Larson’s win at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday. Sure, it was Larson’s second win of the season and sixth Top 5 finish in 2024, but everyone will remember it as the closest finish in NASCAR history. Those 0.001 seconds needed to beat Chris Buescher will keep Larson atop the standings and shorten his NASCAR Cup odds from +400 to +375.
- [Apr 2]: Denny Hamlin’s second win in three weeks as shot him to the top of the odds table, with his NASCAR Cup odds moving from +600 to +475.
- [Feb 20]: The start may have been delayed and it finished under a caution, but the 2024 Daytona 500 finally finished! William Byron took the checkered flag and in spite of the win, his cup odds stayed relatively the same at +600.
- [Dec 4]: William Byron and Kyle Larson have opened as co-favorites to with the 2024 NASCAR Cup, as both drivers are getting odds as short as +550. Right behind the pair are 2023 champ Ryan Blaney (+650), Denny Hamlin (+750), and Christopher Bell (+850)
