Deep in the heart of Texas, the biggest XFL game of the season is producing the closest of the Week 4 point spreads.
The Houston Roughnecks travel to Dallas to face the Renegades with West Division supremacy on the line. Houston will do so as one-point road favorite over Dallas. This game is also providing the highest total among Week 4 contests at 50.5 points.
The DC Defenders fell from the ranks of the unbeaten during Week 3 action, and it was a mighty fall. The Defenders head to Tampa Bay for a Week 4 game that sees the winless Vipers rated as the 1.5-point chalk over DC.
The St. Louis BattleHawks are whopping 12-point home favorites over the Seattle Dragons. This game offers the week’s lowest total at 38.5 points.

Game of the Week
In the preseason, the Renegades were viewed as the team to beat in the XFL. Today, that spot is occupied by the Roughnecks. At 3-0, they’re the only unbeaten team left standing.
Chemistry is vital to team success and Houston has found that sort of mesh with quarterback PJ Walker and wide receiver Cam Phillips. Waker passed for 306 yards and three touchdowns in Houston’s 34-27 Week 3 win over Tampa Bay.

Walker has thrown for 10 TDs. Phillips has caught seven of them. Walker leads the XFL in passing (748 yards). Phillips tops the league in receiving yardage (324).
In two starts, Dallas QB Landry Jones has displayed the ability to give and to have it taken away. Landry has passed for 579 yards and four TDs. He’s also been intercepted four times.
Dallas makes too many mistakes to stay with Houston. This spread will grow in favor of the Roughnecks.
What’s the Total Damage?
Adding up their points per game averages, the Roughnecks (33) and Renegades (19.3) should go over the assigned total of 50.5 points. Houston is the XFL’s top-scoring offense. But Dallas is only allowing a league-low 15 points per game.
Play it safe and go with the “Under”.

At the other end of the scale, the BattleHawks (22.7 points per game) and Dragons (16) aren’t scoring machines. Neither St. Louis (15.3) or Seattle (21.3) give up much, either.
Even at a low total of 38.5, this game screams of an “Under” play.
St. Louis Spreads a Dirty Dozen
The BattleHawks weren’t considered a threat in the preseason odds but they are getting better every week. If you’re seeking a sleeper player in the XFL championship odds, St. Louis is a sound value bet.

That being said, giving 12 points to any team is a dangerous play. The Dragons are 1-2 but they’ve allowed one more TD (seven) than they’ve scored (eight).
This game figures to be closer than the opening line. Grab Seattle and the 12 points before the spread shortens.
Defending the Defenders
Things went so far south for the Defenders in Los Angeles during their 39-9 loss to the Wildcats that even Michael Bloomberg thinks they got roughed up badly.
The oddsmakers have quickly abandoned the DC bandwagon. Donald Trump is telling people he hardly knows the team.
Defenders QB Cardale Jones lost for the first time since he was in high school but now, the line says that he’ll lose two in a row. On top of that, 2-1 DC is an underdog against the XFL’s only winless squad.
Granted, Tampa Bay played its best game of the season last week. Heck, the offense even scored a TD. But you should be taking the Defenders and 1.5 points over the Vipers all day long.

The Wildcats are another team taking major strides each week. Against DC, Josh Johnson looked like a former NFL starting QB.
Meanwhile, the Guardians are sinking into Tampa Bay territory. Seven points is a lot to give a road favorite.
In this case, it doesn’t seem like enough.
