Number 1 pick Paige Bueckers looks for her first career victory tonight as her winless Dallas Wings (0-4) visit the Connecticut Sun (0-4). Like Dallas, Connecticut is still searching for its first victory, and online sportsbooks don’t expect it to come in this matchup. They’re siding with Bueckers and Co. when the action gets underway at 7 pm ET, inside the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Dallas Wings vs Connecticut Sun Odds
The Wings are currently favored by 4.5 points and -205 on the moneyline. The Sun come back as +160 underdogs, while the total sits at 161.5. Connecticut has dropped all four of its games by 5+ points, and are fresh off a 24-point blowout loss to Atlanta. Odds as of May 27 at DraftKings. DAL Wings vs CON Sun Picks
- Dallas Wings -4.5 (-112 at DraftKings)
I’m siding with Dallas tonight, expecting them to cover the spread. We should anticipate a little more juice from Bueckers as she returns to the place where starred in college for four seasons. The Wings have also looked like the superior team so far and have more talent at their disposal.
After making a semifinal run last season, Connecticut has gone through a substantial amount of change. Their entire starting five from last year has departed, either through trade or free agency, and they’re breaking in a new head coach. Rachid Meziane’s tenure as bench boss is off to a horrific start, as his team ranks second worst in both Net and Offensive Rating.
Wings vs Sun Advanced Stats
The Sun is averaging only 68 points per game, and scored just 55 in their most recent loss. They’re shooting a dismal 37% from the field and 26% from three at one end, while yielding 83 points per game at the other.
Dallas meanwhile, has the feel of a team that is moving in the right direction. They have an elite backcourt with Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale, and have been competitive in every game so far despite facing one of the toughest schedules in the league. The Wings have already faced WNBA Championship odds contender and undefeated Minnesota twice, as well as 3-win Seattle and Atlanta.
The elite competition helps explain their defensive struggles. The Wings are second worst in scoring defense and opponent three-point efficiency, and bottom-three in enemy field goal percentage. Dallas’ defensive stats should get a boost tonight against the dreadful Connecticut offense, while their own offense is in a position to succeed.
The Sun are 11th in scoring defense, and below league average in virtually every other defensive metric. Bueckers and Ogunbowale are combining for 25 points and 10 assists per game, with Bueckers becoming the fastest player in league history since Sue Bird to record 50 points and 25 assists.
I predict we get a breakout performance from Bueckers tonight helping Dallas reach a new offensive ceiling. Connecticut won’t be able to keep pace, and their miserable start to 2025 will continue.

- Paige Bueckers 15+ Points (-115 at DraftKings)
Moving over to the player props market now, where Bueckers is our target. The 23-year-old has lacked efficiency to start her WNBA career, but I’m betting that changes tonight. Bueckers is shooting only 34% from the field through four games, and has been held below 30% in back-to-back outings.
As mentioned, stiff competition is my explanation for the underwhelming stats for all the Dallas players, but what’s encouraging is that she hasn’t stopped looking for her shot. Bueckers is averaging 12.5 shots per game and 4.5 free throws. She was always hyper efficient at UConn, shooting north of 52% in all four years.
Bueckers also shot 43% from three on 4.5 attempts per night in college. Positive regression is coming her way, as the talent that made her the number 1 pick is too strong not to shine through on this stage. This is by far the best scoring matchup she’s had all season, and I expect her to take advantage of it.
