- This is Bianca Andreescu’s first Grand Slam final
- Serena Williams will be looking for her 24th Grand Slam trophy
Serena Williams will face off against 19-year- old Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the final of the US Open tomorrow (Saturday, Sep 7, at 4:00 PM ET). The two players’ US Open odds were near the top to start the tournament, so it’s not a big surprise that the two are meeting each other in the finals.
Serena was the favorite to with the tournament at +450 odds, while Bianca was sixth at +1400. Ahead of tomorrow’s match, Serena is heavy chalk.
2019 US Open Final Odds: Williams vs Andreescu
Player | Spread | Win | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Bianca Andreescu | +4.0 (-110) | +220 | O 21.0 (-125) |
Serena Williams | -4.0 (-120) | -275 | U 21.0 (-105) |
Odds taken 09/06/19.
Williams is looking for her first Grand Slam win since giving birth in September of 2017. Andreescu, in search of her maiden Slam, was born nine months after Williams won her first US Open title in 1999.
Andreescu’s Upside
Andreescu has shown an incredible amount of resilience and has battled through a lot this tournament. Carrying a country on her back, she has handled the adversity with aplomb. When her semi-finals match against Belinda Bencic had people in panic, Andreescu buckled down and ended up winning in straight sets.
“[Andreescu] totally deserves to be in the final” – Belinda Bencic
Bianca has a extremely strong backhand and an even stronger forehand. When she was younger, she would play around with other types of shots to keep the game interesting, and it translated into her professional career quite seamlessly.
"Excited is an understatement."

When Taylor Townsend was handling Andreescu’s powerful groundstrokes in the Round of 16, the Canadian threw in some change-of-pace slices to great effect.
Andreescu hasn’t lost since March.
Williams’ Upside
When these two met in the finals of the Rogers Cup less than a month ago, Serena Williams retired after just 15 minutes in due to back spasms, but since the start of the US Open, she’s been spectacular.

She has dispatched her last four opponents in straight sets. No one has taken more than four games off of her in that span. In the quarters and semifinals, she lost five games combined.
All told in the tournament, she’s clobbered her six opponents 77-30 in terms of games won. She’s only lost three games on her serve the entire tournament.
She’s on the hunt for her record-tying 24th Grand Slam win, and her record breaking 7th US Open, and she’s playing some of the best tennis of her legendary career. It’s a scary thought.
Rematch of the Rogers Cup
The Rogers Cup finals rematch came a lot quicker than anyone expected it to. Saturday’s US Open Finals comes just four weeks after that hometown win for Andreescu. But again, she earned the win due to Serena’s retirement.

In last year’s US Open final, Serena Williams was handed a loss by Naomi Osaka and left Arthur Ashe Stadium in tears.
Where to Put Your Money
Since the two haven’t really faced each other before, it’s hard to figure out where exactly you should put your money. The reality is, Serena Williams’ back spasms could come back at any time, there’s wasn’t much lead up during the Rogers Cup.

This is a tough one, but don’t be surprised if Bianca provides the biggest upset of her career. The 19-year-old has had quite the season, and it’s become evident that Andreescu wants this one, and she wants it bad. Her adrenaline, her game, and her resilience very well may help her take this one away from Williams.
Either way, I see this match going three sets. I’d put my money on Andreescu as a +220 underdog and the total of over 21.0 games (-125).
Picks: Andreescu (+220) & Over 21.0 (-125)
