Bianca Andreescu and Sofia Kenin will face each other in the semifinals of the Rogers Cup Saturday afternoon, and the two are not strangers to each other this year.
Today's first semi-final is a battle of @WTA young guns.
Once junior rivals, the two have resumed their head-to-head in the pros – and the next chapter will be written today in Toronto, Bianca Andreescu's home turf at 1pm ET.

The young phenom’s faced each other at both the Mexican and Miami Open, both taking one.
Hometown Hero
Andreescu has already etched herself in the Canadian history books, but it’s not over yet for the 19-year-old, and it won’t come easy in the semifinals. During her quarterfinal match she had to take a medical timeout in the second set and battled a strained groin for the rest of the match. An injury that she will battle in the semi’s that will take place about 24 hours after her victory.
In the third set I told myself ‘go big or go home.’ Literally go home. My home is like two minutes from here.” – Bianca Andreescu
No Easy Path
Neither player had an easy quarterfinal match up. Kenin saw former Rogers Cup winner Elina Svitolina, and was able to shut her down in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. Andreescu saw former world no. 1 Karolina Pliskova, and took match 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
Another Top 10 win for @sofiakenin!

20-year-old Sofia Kenin is no joke. She upset world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the first round of the Rogers Cup, and plays tough tennis.
Incredible!@Bandreescu_ beats third seed Pliskova 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the @rogerscup !#RC19 pic.twitter.com/jEygfGjmX1

Where To Put Your Money
For this semifinals match up, Andreescu has to be your pick. She’s the hometown hero, the skies the limit, this was her tournament opportunity for a comeback, and she’s proven that literally nothing can stop her right now, including a strained groin. The match will definitely go the distance, because of the fatigue and the amount of tennis both players have played this week. But Bianca’s power, drive, and adrenaline will probably be enough to take her to the finals.
Pick: Andreescu (+108)
2019 WTA Rogers Cup Semi Final Odds – Williams vs Bouzková
Player | Spread | Win | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Serena Williams | -5 1/2 | -488 | -110 |
Marie Bouzková | +5 1/2 | +413 | -110 |
Serena Williams defeated Naomi Osaka in a rematch of what was a controversial US Open Final last year to move onto the semifinals of the Rogers Cup. Williams was able to beat Osaka 6-3, 6-4. Marie Bouzkova made it to the semifinals after Simona Halep retired after the first set, which Bouzkova took 6-4.
First Meeting
Williams and Bouzkova have never seen each other in a match, but both are more than familiar with how the other plays. This week Bouzkova has showcased that she can really go head to head with anyone out there. Don’t let it fool you that her quarterfinal opponent retired, the 21-year old still jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Halep. Bouzkova took down Sloane Stephens and Jelena Ostapenko to get to where she is in this tournament.
.@MarieBouzkova nails a dropshot so soft, even Halep could barely handle! #RC19 pic.twitter.com/3rWEuaOBbC

Where To Put Your Money
Bouzkova has been playing incredible tennis, but Williams is the better bet in this match up. Williams came out against Osaka with an 82% success rate on her first serves and had 12 aces, and didn’t face a single break point. Don’t be surprised if Bouzkova gives Williams a run for her money.
.@serenawilliams books a spot in the @rogerscup semifinals!

The young superstar has great skill and laser sharp focus, but Williams has the opportunity to hoist her fourth Rogers Cup trophy if she continues to play the way we’ve seen her play this tournament.
Pick: Williams (-488)
