Third Straight ATP Masters 1000 Semifinal

Seventh seed Sinner went up against fellow countryman Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. He improved to 2-0 against the fellow Italian, after defeating him 6-2, 6-2 to earn a spot in the semifinals.

Sinner managed to win the match by coming out to a strong 4-0 lead in the opening set. He quickly took that, and in the second, Musetti looked like he might be able to force a decider, but Sinner shut it down quickly.

Sinner didn’t play one of his best matches ever, but it was enough to secure the win.

The 21-year old is now the only man to reach the semifinals at all three of the ATP Masters 1000s this season

Rune Upsets Daniil Medvedev

19-year old Rune upset the World No. 5 Medvedev in straight sets on Friday to earn a spot in the semifinals at the Monte-Carlo Masters. With his 6-3, 6-4 win over Medvedev, Rune improved to 10-8 against Top 10 players, and a 16-7 overall record on the year.

Rune has had strong showings on clay before, and will look to continue playing well during the European clay season, leading up to the French Open.

On his way to his quarterfinal victory, Rune managed to convert three of his five break points, while converting 81 percent of his points at the net. He struggled a bit at times against the former No.1’s serve, but that was expected.

First Meeting of 2023

The one and only match that has been played between Sinner and Rune happened last year where Rune won after Sinner retired in the third set.

The match was played on an indoor hard court, while this match will be played on an outdoor clay court.
