Naomi Osaka Now +550 Odds to Win French Open Women’s Singles

• Naomi Osaka has needed the full six sets to win her first two matches at the French Open.
• No. 2 Karolina Pliskova, No. 4 Kiki Bertens, No. 5 Angelique Kerber and No. 6 Petra Kvitova are all out of the French Open.
• Only eight of the Top 20 seeds on the women’s side remain.

Naomi Osaka has won the last two grand slams and is the No. 1 seed on WTA Tour, but she’s been a bit overlooked at the French Open. Most predictions saw Simona Halep, Kiki Bertens or Petra Kvitova winning it all. With a number of top seeds falling, is now the time to invest in Osaka and her French Open odds? Let’s take a closer look.

Osaka Now Second-Favorite

Not many people felt Osaka was a real threat at Roland Garros because we aren’t exactly sure how her game translates to clay. She was just 3-3 on clay last year, 2-4 in 2017 and was just 7-3 on clay heading into the French Open.

She’s been shaky so far, nearly ousted in her opening match after losing the first set 6-0 and needing to win a second set tiebreaker just to survive. She eventually defeated Anna Karolína Schmiedlová in three sets. She again did the same thing in the second round – losing the first set before winning in three – but she eventually ousted Victoria Azarenka.

It’s true that her path has gotten much easier,m but she hasn’t exactly impressed in the tournament so far. She’ll have to play better as we proceed.

Tons Of Seeds Have Fallen

You thought No. 4 seed Kiki Bertens was a good bet? She retired in her second-round match. You thought it was finally No. 2 Karolina Pliskova’s chance to shine? She lost in the third round. Maybe that creates an opening for No. 5 Angelique Kerber or No. 6 Petra Kvitova. Well, neither made it to the second round.

Many other top seeds have also dropped like flies,including No. 9 Elina Svitolina, No. 11 Aryna Sabalenka, No. 13 Caroline Wozniacki and No. 15 Belinda Bencic. Only eight players in the top 20 remain, which is somewhat stunning. The question is: who does this benefit?

Williams A Good Bet

Serena Williams is flying under the radar but that’s probably good for her. She has been in the spotlight in recent grand slams and it’s seemingly hurt her as the media and fans kept their eye on her every move. Now she’s just focused on playing and she’s doing well.

Sure, Halep is the obvious beneficiary to all of the top seeds falling. She’s been to the finals two years in a row and won last year. However, she has needed the full three sets to win each of her first two matches. Williams dropped her opening set but has lost a total of six games since.

Williams will have some challenging matches ahead, likely one with No. 8 Ashleigh Barty and either Osaka or No. 14 Madison Keys. Still, I like her chances to push for a title here. With Osaka, Halep and others getting the spotlight, you’re getting a better price on Williams at +900. I’ll take a flier on her.
