The 2020 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament has reached the final as Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime will take on No. 3 Gael Monfils. A lot of the top seeds at this event have faltered early but Monfils, who is the defending champ at Rotterdam, has made it through to the end. Can he cash as a favorite or will Auger-Aliassime win his first career title?

Auger-Aliassime has Impressed in Rotterdam
Auger-Aliassime is a 19-year-old Canadian who is viewed by many to be on the rise. He’s now the No. 21 player in the world and will be inching up the rankings after his performance at Rotterdam. It seemed like it’s just a matter of time before he started winning tournaments and his first career title could come in Holland.

In fairness, it’s worth mentioning that he’s had a really easy path to the finals as he’s yet to play a single seeded player. If things went according to plan, he probably should have played No. 2 Stefanos Tsitsipas and No. 8 Denis Shapovalov, at the very least.
At the same time, Auger-Aliassime has taken care of business rather easily in all of his matches. He needed three sets in the first round but he’s beaten everyone else in straight sets. That includes Pablo Carreno Busta in the semis, who is the No. 30 player in the world.
Monfils on Cruise Control
Monfils, who entered the tournament as the No. 9 player in the world, has been in absolute cruise control through Rotterdam. He’s also benefited from an easy draw as he’s yet to play a seeded player all the way through. He probably should have bumped into No. 5 Fabio Fognini or No. 1 Daniil Medvedev along the way.

At any rate, Monfils has barely broken a sweat in this event as he’s clubbed everyone in straight sets. He’s lost a total of 28 games across four matches, which is quite impressive. By contrast, Auger-Aliassime has lost 50 games in total.

What’s the Best Bet?
There will be an interesting contrast on the court on Sunday as Monfils has been on the ATP Tour for 17 years; Auger-Aliassime has been alive for just 19. That’s a huge gap in experience.

I would say that Auger-Aliassime has a good shot to win here but Monfils plays really well at this event. Including this year, the last three times he’s participated at this event, he’s made it to the final each time, winning once and he could win again. With the big edge in experience too, he’s the better bet here in my view.
