- Sportsbooks list Canada’s Milos Raonic as a +500 underdog in his Australian Open men’s singles quarterfinal match against defending champion Novak Djokovic
- Djokovic is sportdsbooks’ odds-on -150 favorite to repeat as champ
- Raonic hasn’t lost a set or a service so far in this year’s tournament
In an upset-filled Australian Open, will Milos Raonic have what it takes to dispatch defending champion Novak Djokovic?
Already in this year’s tournament, the Canadian with the powerful serve has ousted sixth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas, the reigning ATP Finals champion. He toppled Marin Cilic in a battle of players who were both formerly ranked #3 in the world.
Raonic has yet to drop a set or a service in the tournament. After losing, Cilic commented that he believed Raonic could win the Australian Open.
To do so, he’ll have to get by a player who’s won the event a record seven times. Djokovic hasn’t dropped a set since the opening of the tourney.

Raonic Finds His Form
The 2019 campaign was a rough one for Raonic. The Canadian star endured back and glute muscle ailments that limited him to 14 tournaments all year long.
When he departed in the first round at Doha in a tuneup for the Australian Open, no one expected the 29-year-old Canuck to make noise in Melbourne. He came into the event seeded 32nd and ranked #35 in the world.

Raonic had other ideas in mind, though. He’s played near-flawless tennis so far. Entering his quarterfinal showdown with Djokovic, Raonic is the tournament leader in aces (82) and first-serve points (87 percent). His service is yet to be broken through four matches and 12 sets.

He dispatched #6 seed Tsitsipas without facing a break point while winning 7-5, 6-4, 7-6(7-2) in the third round. Raonic served 35 aces in downing Cilic 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 in the Round of 16.
It’s his 10th trip to a Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Djokovic His Steady Self
Djokovic has won ten straight sets in Melbourne since dropping the third set of his opening-round match against German Jan-Lennard Struff by a 6-2 count.

Ranked #2 in the world and seeded #2 in the Australian Open, Djokovic has lost serve just twice throughout the tournament. He’s won more than 90 percent of his first-serve points.
Djokovic defeated 14th-seeded Diego Schartzman of Argentina 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in fourth-round play.
Novak Perfect Against Milos
Raonic and Djokovic are actually good friends but The Joker is all business when he faces his friend on court. His 9-0 slate against Raonic includes a 7-6(7-5), 6-4, 6-2 triumph in the 2015 Australian Open quarterfinals.
Raonic has won just four of 23 sets in head-to-head competition with Djokovic.

Raonic reached the Australian Open semfinals in 2016. That was also the last year in which he recorded a victory over the a player ranked in the world’s top three.
The most recent meeting between theses two was a tight, three-set affair at the Western & Southern Open in 2018. Raonic extended Djokovic to a pair of tie-break at the 2016 ATP Finals.

With so many top seeds falling in this year’s tournament and Raonic playing well, it’s going to be easy to lean toward playing the upset here. But Djokovic can match Raonic’s powerful service game, and he’s a better baseline player.
Still, with Raonic going so well, a four or five-set match isn’t out of the question. Playing the over on total games might just be the best bet in this match
Pick: Over 37 games (-120).
