Back-to-Back Wimbledon Quarterfinals for Tomljanovic
The 29-year old finds herself in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the second year in a row, after defeating France’s Alize Cornet in a three set battle. Tomljanovic went on to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Cornet was riding high from defeating Iga Swiatek in the round before, and was playing like it. In the deciding set, Tomljanovic actually went up 5-1, looking to close it out, but Cornet managed to comeback and serve at 3-5. Tomljanovic forced two match points, but Cornet was able to save them.
It took a third match point and a 26-stroke rally at deuce for Tomljanovic to secure the win.

It took over two and a half hours, but Tomljanovic booked herself a spot in the final eight.
Rybakina Cruises Through Four
The 23-year old has cruised through Wimbledon so far, having yet to drop a set in her four matches played. The 17th seed has seemed to really been challenged, and even if she thinks she has, she hasn’t shown it.
In what is just her second Wimbledon main draw, Rybakina secured a spot in her first quarterfinal when she defeated Petra Martic 7-5, 6-3, in just under an hour and a half.
Rybakina was able to control most of this match from the beginning, collecting a total of 26 winners to just 17 unforced errors. In what was a tight first set, she recorded a total of 14 unforced errors, and was able to tighten up in the second, having only three.

With her win, she’s made it one round further than last year when she made her debut. The 23-year old hasn’t found a ton of success on grass between last year’s Wimbledon and now, winning just one of three matches prior to the Grand Slam, but she’s figured something out in London.
Second Meeting Between Tomljanovic and Rybakina
These two faced each other for the first time in 2021, where Rybakina won in straight sets. She holds to the head-to-head edge at 1-0.

Where’s the Best Bet?
On paper Rybakina is the best bet to win here. She’s the higher ranked player, and is showing to be in better form not just here at Wimbledon, but on the season as a whole.
But an interesting stat is that Tomljanovic has won 13 of 18 matches played on grass since 2021. Her strong, aggressive groundstrokes do quite well on the fast grass, and has worked in her favor in the past.
But when it comes to the second week of a Grand Slam, fatigue is also something to keep in mind, and when Rybakina has blown through her matches without dropping a set, and Tomljanovic has had two of her four go the distance, Rybakina has a slight edge there.
It’s going to be a tight match, but look for Rybakina to book her spot in her first Wimbledon semifinal.
