Head to Head
This will not be the first time either player will be seeing each other. The two have faced off before in the Birmingham Classic in 2018, where Gorges beat Barty in straight sets in the round of 16. Later in the year, the two saw each other at the WTA Elite Trophy in the semi-finals, where Barty beat Goerges and went on to win the tournament, on the hard court surface.

Not only have the two seen each other on opposite sides of the court, they have actually been competing as a team in doubles this tournament. They’re slotted to play later today in the doubles semi-finals of the Birmingham Classic.
Eyes on the Prize
With her semi-final’s win, Ashleigh Barty is just one win away from doing something she has never done before, become No.1 ranked in the world. Barty’s been the favorite and has had the best odds to win the Birmingham Classic since the beginning, coming off of her win at the French Open. If she were to win this tournament, her odds going into Wimbledon will be very favorable.

Barty beat Czech veteren Barbora Strycova 6-4, 6-4 in what looked like a match that could go either way early on.

Barty has now won her last 11 singles matches, and looks to make it 12 on Sunday.
It Won’t Be an Easy Task
World ranked No. 19 Julia Goerges beat Crotia’s Petra Martic 6-4, 6-3, earning a spot in Sunday’s final, and although the big story is that Barty could earn No. ranked, she will have to get past Goerges in order to do so. Goerges has beat Barty on this court, this time last year in the round of 16 in straight sets, which would give some confidence to the German.

The Match
Sunday’s match between these two players is going to be a great one to watch. Both Goerges and Barty had the opportunity to go 2 for 2 today with their respected singles win, and a possible doubles win, but what seems like further consideration the retired the match in preparation for tomorrow. It would’ve been very interesting if they played together and then faced each other tomorrow.

At first glance, I didn’t expect the odds to be that far apart from each other. Barty has been favored since the beginning, so there’s no surprise that she’s expected to win. But Goerges hasn’t just come out of nowhere, and she has beat Barty on this grass before. From previous knowledge, a straight set win probably won’t happen, but Barty will probably be ranked No.1 this time tomorrow.
Pick: Barty (-475)
