- Simona Halep is looking to defend her French Open title and join a select few who have gone back-to-back
- Halep is coming off a tough, straight set loss to Kiki Bertens at the Madrid Open
- Serena Williams will be returning from having to withdraw from the Italian Open in the round of 32
The 2019 French Open is just days away and sportsbooks have posted some tantalizing props in preparation for the tournament.
Many eyes will be on defending champ Simona Halep, and how she bounces back from a tough loss in Italy. Fans will also be watching Serena Williams closely to see how her injury impacts her play.

Williams will be searching for her record-tying 24th Grand Slam single’s title with a win at the French Open. Unfortunately her health is making the fight harder and harder. She withdrew from the Miami Open in March, and most recently entered the Italian Open, but withdrew in the Round of 32.

Her French Open odds look fairly reasonable based on her past few months with the inconsistencies, so the chance we see her in the finals, let alone win, is tough to argue. And that’s if she doesn’t go down and withdraw due to injury at any point.

Sloane Stephens and Serena Williams’ odds on whether they’ll win the French Open are the exact same this year, and that says a lot for someone who’s coming off injury and someone who was the runner up in last year’s tournament.

Stephens coming off a loss to Johanna Konta in the Round of 32 in Italy doesn’t play well for the American, but Konta did end up at the finals.
Having dubbed clay her favorite surface, it was expected she would do better this season, especially with her new coach Sven Groeneveld. However, “no” is probably still the better bet here.

Simona Halep’s odds to win the tournament have only fluctuated a bit over the course of the past month. But despite a couple of losses, she hasn’t budged from being the favorite to win the tournament.
Halep hasn’t budged from being the favorite to win the French Open.
These odds are interesting because they are significantly lower than the other props given. They’re still not giving us the impression that Halep will repeat as the champ at Roland Garros, and join only five other women who have managed to achieve that.

Arguably one of the best clay court players, this season has been a little less than ideal for Halep. Prior to the start of the season, her coach, Darren Cahill decided to part ways with the Romanian, and he was an instrumental part of her rise in tennis.

The way that everyone has been playing leading up to Roland Garros this year has not made it easy to bet on who will take home the trophy. The “no” option in this scenario is interesting because of the rankings for Stephens and Williams. Both players are in the top five, with Stephens odds at three, and Williams’ odds tied at five.
But I do think taking the “no” in this prop is the way to go. There are too many dark horses in the mix this year.
