The inaugural Conference League Final trophy is up for grabs on Wednesday afternoon as Roma and Feyenoord lock horns in Albania.
For Roma, this will be a massive opportunity to win their first ever major European honor. Aside from a 1961 victory in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, Roma have never triumphed on Europe’s most glamorous stages. Specifically, they lost the European Cup Final to Liverpool in 1984 and the UEFA Cup Final to Inter in 1991. However, their fortunes could change with the “Special One” in charge.
Conversely, Feyenoord are competing for their fourth major European honor. Previously, they have won Ol’ Big Ears once and the UEFA Cup twice. Although, this is their first major European final since 2002.

Over/Under and Spread
Overall, the moneyline odds for this match narrowly favor Mourinho’s Roma at +135. Plus, there is a similar price on either side of the 2.5 total goal line. The over boasts -109 odds, while the under is slightly favored at -113 odds. Respectively, this over has hit on 77% of their combined Conference League matches this season.

Nonetheless, these sides have only met twice before, in a Europa League Round of 32 affair. While Feyenoord was able to snatch a draw at the Stadio Olimpico, a 2-1 defeat at home in the second leg saw their departure from the tournament.
How Roma Reached the Final Phase
Now, let us switch gears into what has been a positive Roma campaign, abroad. Aside from three separate slip-ups against Bodo/Glimt, the only sides to even draw level with them were Vitesse and Leicester City.

To reach the final, Roma had to battle it out in a gritty semifinal against the aforementioned Leicester City. In fact, a 1-0 victory in Rome was enough to complete the task at hand.

Moreover, the lone goal was set up by none other than Lorenzo Pellegrini. The captain whipped a ball in from the corner flag that was exquisitely headed in by Tammy Abraham. Of course, this duo has been Mourinho’s peanut butter and jelly during his maiden journey as Roma gaffer. In fact, the duo have a combined 51 goal contributions across all competitions.
Feyenoord’s Unlikely Success
On the other hand, Feyenoord reached this stage by topping a group with the likes of Maccabi Haifa, Slavia Prague and Union Berlin. In consequential order, they took down Partizan, Slavia Prague and Marseille in the knockout rounds.
Additionally, Arne Slot’s side were much improved in Eredivisie this year. After a fifth place finish last year, Feyenoord were able to make up a 12 point gap to climb all the way to third.

In particular, Feyenoord simply have quality all around the pitch. Reiss Nelson has been a quality loan signing from Arsenal, and the likes Cyriel Dessers and Luis Sinisterra smash in goals. Lastly, they are a strong counter-attacking side, which is something Roma will have to be precautious of.
Jose Mourinho’s Record in Finals
Furthermore, Jose Mourinho has gotten his fair share of banter online in recent years. But, one thing is for certain, the man is a serial winner and has a knack for big game finals.
Mourinho: "Finals, usually, come at the end of the season. So the hard work has been done. The preparation has happened over the season.
"So tomorrow we will just try and help the players feel ready. We should feel fortunate our last game is a final."#ASRoma #UECL #UECLfinal pic.twitter.com/njamLr3BJ9

Currently, Mourinho has lifted a staggeringly high, 12 major cup final trophies. There have only been three major finals he has lost which include: the Portuguese Cup in 2004, the Copy del Rey in 2013 and the FA Cup in 2018. The Portuguese manager is perfect in his four major European finals. Coincidentally, he took down Dutch side, Ajax, in his last European final in 2017 with Manchester United.
