The English Premier League Matchday 8 takes place this weekend, with a restricted program due to the lying in state and the funeral on Monday of Queen Elizabeth II. Below we offer some Premier League picks for bettors to consider.
Three games have had to be postponed – Brighton vs Crystal Palace, Manchester United vs Leeds United and Chelsea vs Liverpool – due to police resources having to be directed to London ahead of the state funeral.
We list below the odds for the seven games that are taking place and preview three that could offer some potential value.
Premier League Odds Matchday 8
Matchup | Home | Draw | Away |
---|---|---|---|
Aston Villa vs Southampton | +107 | +255 | +250 |
Nottingham Forest vs Fulham | +180 | +240 | +150 |
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City | +850 | +430 | -310 |
Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth | -230 | +340 | +675 |
Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City | -215 | +360 | +550 |

Man City, as always, start the weekend with the shortest odds – on this occasion a miserly -310 to win away at Wolves. A $10 wager pays out just $13.20 (including the winning stake).
On the flip side, Wolves are a massive +850 to win that game, and not far behind are Bournemouth who are listed at +675 to beat Newcastle at St James’ Park, which for the same $10 stake wins $77.50.

Nottingham Forest vs Fulham Premier League Pick
It’s been an unhappy homecoming for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, despite them spending over a staggering $175milion on 21 new players. Just one win so far – in their opening home game against West Ham – has left them in 19th place.

Fulham, meanwhile, have made a solid start on their return to the EPL with a 2-2-2 record. Manager Marco Silva has quietly gone about putting together a competitive squad as he looks to help the club lose its yo-yo tag, and they now look well equipped for the battle.
Back to it tomorrow. 💪

Forest though will look to make home advantage count here, with their fans creating their customary cauldron of noise. Their home form has been good even though it hasn’t been reflected in their results, so I can envisage Cooper’s men narrowly winning this.
Premier League Pick: Nottingham Forest to win(+180).
Everton vs West Ham United Premier League Pick
No wins so far for Frank Lampard’s Everton but, bizarrely, the Toffees come into this off the back of an unbeaten run of four games – the most recent being a goal-less Merseyside derby. Roared on by a very noisy Goodison Park crowd, it was a game they came close to winning.
FT. The 241st Merseyside derby ends in stalemate. Great effort by the Blues but we couldn't find a winner. Onwards, Evertonians. 👊

For the Hammers of the East End, it has been an even more disappointing start and they find themselves down 18th place – two below Everton. David Moyes’ squad still looked well equipped to challenge for a European place but so far it just hasn’t clicked in the EPL as their 1-1-4 record demonstrates.

West Ham fans are still expecting their team to ignite and then kick on, but Everton, given the Hammers’ lack of EPL form, will see this as an ideal opportunity to nab their first win of the campaign. At almost 2/1, the value here is with a win for Lampard’s men.
Premier League Pick: Everton to win (+195).
Brentford vs Arsenal Prediction
Last season, this match-up was the EPL opener and threw up a surprise when, in their first-ever Premier League game, Brentford beat the Gunners 2-0. While the Bees went on to have a good season and have made a solid start to this one, Arsenal are now in a very different place. Mikel Arteta’s men currently lead the Premier League with an impressive 5-0-1 record.

Thomas Frank’s men look at home in the EPL and have proved themselves capable of going toe-to-toe with the elite of the English game. With a record of 2-3-1 – during which they have scored 15 goals – they look well set to make this a tough afternoon for the Gunners. And the good news keeps on coming for Brentford as, during the week, striker Ivan Toney has been called up to the England squad.
Five matches. Five wins.

This will be a massive test for Arteta’s men, especially after last season’s result, but is the type of game they need to get something from if they are to push for a Champions League place. With Arsenal starting as heavy odds-on favorites, the value here appears to be with a draw, which would be the visitors’ first of the campaign.
Premier League Pick: Brentford and Arsenal to draw (+285).
