Mexico and USA can both take giant leaps towards reaching the World Cup when they meet in a crunch clash at the Azteca Stadium on Thursday.
Indeed, the winner of this game could secure its place at the final tournament on the night if other results fall favorably and improve their World Cup odds.
The eight-team Third Round of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament is heading into its final window with three fixtures for each team up until Matchday 14 on March 30.

Top Three Finishers Head to Qatar
The top three finishers accordingly progress to the finals in Qatar in November.
Fourth-placed Panama has 17 points and, in this position, would subsequently advance to an inter-confederation play-off.
Although Canada leads the group ahead of their match with Costa Rica, any clash between USA and Mexico is a meeting of the two power-house nations of FIFA’s CONCACAF zone.
There was previously a 2-0 win for the USA when it hosted Mexico in this qualifying tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio last November.

This was its third straight win against these opponents in all competitions.
However, Mexico is very powerful at its vast home stadium in its capital city while USA’s away form has been poor in this tournament.
Therefore, the oddsmakers at Barstool Sportsbook rate Mexico as the favorite for a win at -115.
With kick-off at 9:00 pm ET, USA is priced at +310 with the draw at +220.
However, there is an attractive spread offer on the Asian Handicap of +250 for Mexico to win by two goals or more (Asian Handicap -1.25).

Obviously, the bottom line objective for both teams here is to stay ahead of the Panamanians – who are likely to claim three more points on Thursday in a home fixture against bottom side Honduras.
The group is presently not quite at the do-or-die stage yet.
But both Mexico and USA will be acutely aware of the need to maintain momentum at this stage.
Mexico’s Home Record a Key Factor
Mexico’s home record will consequently be important. It has won three and drawn two of its five fixtures on its soil so far.
It has, furthermore, never lost a competitive game against the USA at this arena with a record of seven wins and three draws.

Comparatively, the US side has won on the road just once against the poor Honduras outfit last September.
Furthermore, it has lost twice and drawn twice on its travels.

Significantly, Mexico is unbeaten since 2013 at the Azteca Stadium which has an intense atmosphere and is also at high altitude – making it something of a fortress for the national team.
Even so, there has been some dissatisfaction with the Mexican side as it has lost twice in this qualifying campaign – having reached the 2018 finals without defeat.
Coach Martino Brings Barca Style
Former Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino is the Mexican coach. And he has attempted to replicate Barca’s stylish tiki-taka brand of football in his latest posting.
However, it has not been emphatically successful.
Last time out in early February in the World Cup, it secured an important 1-0 home win against Panama.

That came as it collected seven points from nine in the last round of fixtures -winning 2-1 in Jamaica but drawing 0-0 at home against Costa Rica.
The USA was previously a 3-0 winner at home against Honduras in its most recent World Cup date.
That came following a 2-0 defeat away against table-topping Canada.
Mexico’s squad specifically features 18 players from Liga MX. But the men to probably watch out for are striker Raul Jiminez of Wolverhampton Wanderers along with the Napoli forward Irving Lozano.
It's one of the best rivalry games in global soccer. But is the @USMNT-Mexico at Azteca writing its final chapter this week? @FMF https://t.co/qZ5aMv3HNs

USA coach Gregg Berhalter, meanwhile, has a young squad. But he will be delighted by the recent form of Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic.
If Mexico win and both Panama and fifth-placed Costa Rica are simultaneously beaten on Matchday 12, Mexico’s place at the finals will be secure.
Similarly, the same goes for the US team’s hopes.
Charlie Davies felt 'teleported' from his body.
Eric Wynalda threw up during a match as the #USMNT made history.Success is rare at Azteca. The games are always memorable.

It means there is a lot at stake. And, in conclusion, Mexico’s strong record in this stadium compares favorably with USA’s indifferent form on the road.
So, therefore, it’s quite easy to suggest that the Mexicans will secure a vital victory by two goals or more.
Pick: Mexico -1.25 Asian Handicap (+250)
