The Premier League is back this weekend, after what felt like a years-long international break. Luckily, we are in store for a few rivalry games this weekend; but, none quite reach the levels of Manchester City vs Manchester United. This will be the 188th rendition of the Manchester Derby, a rivalry that has a story or two to its name. Why always me? Rooney’s overhead kick. What will happen this weekend?
The two-time defending champions come into this match on a flyer of recent form. In fact, three consecutive wins against Sevilla, Dortmund and Wolves, with only one goal conceded will give that squad even more confidence.
However, Manchester United are not an opponent to take lightly, at the moment. The Red Devils have won four Premier League games in a row, after a wretched start to their season.

All in all, Manchester City are still the overwhelming favorites with moneyline odds of -295. In 187 matches against their crosstown rivals, they have won 57 and drawn 53. However, their recent success is a bit more positive, going 3-1-1 against Manchester United in their last five meetings.

Now, if you do favor Pep Guardiola’s side, you can get better value betting on the spread. The odds for Manchester City -1.5 (basically, to win by 2) sit at -115, which obviously has less juice. Moreover, this play hit in both of last year’s Manchester Derbies.

Over/Under Odds & Last Goal Prop
Additionally, goals are to be expected in Sunday’s match. The over on 3.5 total goals only has plus odds of +105, while the under on the same amount has odds of -135. This play has not hit in six of their last seven meetings, so do not make the mistake of favoring it because of the excitement factor.

Next, on the player side, you have to favor Erling Haaland to score. The Norwegian target man has already scored eleven Premier League goals this season, off an xG of just 7.4. On top of that, his mark of 1.73 goals per ninety minutes played is absolutely remarkable. As a result, his AGS odds are -250, but you can get +210 odds for him to score twice, a feat which he has done four times this season.

How Will United Stop Haaland?
It is the question everyone is asking this season; how do we stop Haaland from scoring? The short answer is that you probably can’t. With Manchester City’s creative tools, Haaland will always get his chances in this side. Also, you cannot fail to mention the mismatch in defense. Lisandro Martinez has a massive height disadvantage, and Haaland can surely outpace Varane.
How can you stop @ErlingHaaland 🤷♂️
Lisandro Martinez can’t stop him physically so he has to be smarter! #MCIMUN

Regardless, my point is that Manchester United really have to pay keen attention to their attack. Erik ten Hag has some big personnel decisions on Sunday, which could really dictate this match. The rumors are that Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial have trained all week, after respective injuries. One of their inclusions, along with Sancho and Antony, could make for an exciting front three.

With that being said, a lot has to go right for Manchester United. They would have to hit City quickly, and try to defend as City typically do not play two bad halves. Finally, they only have a 38% win rate when Michael Oliver is the lead official.

Manchester City vs Manchester United Prediction
Overall, I am riding with Manchester City -1.5 with odds of -115. Yes, it is a bit chalk, but I just do not think this ten Hag side is ready for the bright lights of a derby.
Pick: Manchester City -1.5 (-115).
