SGP Pick #1: England Moneyline

England’s confidence-boosting win over Iran has set them up nicely for a good run in this tournament. A win over either the USA or Wales – who they play next Tuesday – and Gareth Southgate’s men will have guaranteed their spot in the knockout phase of the competition.

Despite entering the tournament off the back of a poor run of form, Southgate’s decision to return to a back-four and include 19-year-old Jude Bellingham in the center of his midfield paid dividends. The Borussia Dortmund youngster scored England’s opener and played with a maturity normally associated with a seasoned international.

With both fullbacks – Luke Shaw and Kieran Trippier – given the freedom to get high up the pitch, this was a far more fluid, attacking England than anyone has seen over the last 12 months. During that time their performances have often been stodgy and over-cautious.

While the USA will offer a tougher test than Iran, if England can hit those same levels they will give themselves a great chance of getting another three points.

SGP Pick #2: Harry Kane Anytime Goalscorer

One of the most remarkable things about England’s 6-2 win was that Harry Kane – who needs just three goals to be his country’s all-time leading goalscorer – didn’t get on the scoresheet. Doubly concerning for England fans was that their skipper limped off in the second half after rolling one of his troublesome ankles.

But, the good news for England (and bad for the USA) is that Kane has been declared fit to play and will be leading their line in Al Khor. After missing out in game one despite his teammates hitting six, it would take a brave bettor to bet against him scoring in this one in the England vs USA props.

If Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount, and Raheem Sterling can give him a good supply, then Kane looks likely to edge closer to that record.

SGP Pick #3: USA Over 0.5 Goals

While the USA come into this game as big outsiders for the win, they will be heartened by a really good team performance in the opening 45 against Wales.

If they could have added to Timothy Weah’s brilliant 36th-minute strike during that spell they may well have gone on to win the game and were only the width of a goalpost away from doing so – Norwich City’s Josh Sargent’s near-post header glancing against the outside of the upright.

With Christian Pulisic looking an attacking threat against the Welsh – let’s not forget that inch-perfect through ball for Weah’s goal – then there are plenty of reasons to believe the USA can get on the board against England, Worth noting too is that Southgate’s defense, which is considered a weak link, conceded two despite the team playing well against Iran.
