On Monday morning, the Lionesses of England face Nigeria in their first knockout match at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Get the most current England vs Nigeria odds and predictions in our post below. England are looking to build further on two consecutive trips to the semifinals and have a very foreseeable path to do so, which makes it all the more important to read up now.
However, this match against Nigeria presents some unique challenges. While the Super Falcons only have five victories in 29 Women’s World Cup matches, their defense has been stellar in this edition of the tournament. In fact, the only team to score against Nigeria was of course the hosts, Australia. In three matches, they were expected to concede 4.1 goals, and conceded just two instead, much to the credit of goalie Chiamaka Nnadozie and her 83% save percentage.
Nonetheless, England will test them with a variety of star attackers and possible formations Sarina Wiegman could roll out. From Lauren James, to Rachel Daly, to Alessia Russo to Lauren Hemp; this team is stacked and can hit you from all angles. In their last 25 matches, they have only been shut out twice, which means Nigeria will have to open up at some point and try to actually beat England, not just bring them to stalemate.
England vs Nigeria Odds
Matchup | Moneyline Odds |
---|---|
England | -380 |
Nigeria | +900 |
Draw | +450 |
Overall, England are the favorites in this match with juicy moneyline odds of -380. Moreover, their odds to advance sit at -700, equating to an implied win probability of 87.5%. On the Nigeria side, you can find more realistic value by betting the +1.5 spread, which offers -125 odds; this is very good considering they are unbeaten at the Women’s World Cup and have three clean sheets in their last four games.

England vs Nigeria Over/Under Odds
Additionally, this game could go either way in terms of the over/under. Currently, the under on 2.5 goals is the most favored option at -115, with the reverse selection sitting at -110. In their six combined World Cup matches so far, the under has hit 66.6% of the time, with an average of 2.33 total goals per match. With very solid defenses, that have conceded a total of two goals Down Under, I would lean towards this being a tighter affair, despite England’s offensive prowess.

Props – Lauren James to Score
Another sprinkle I like for Monday morning is Lauren James to score at +185. This play has great value for a player who already has three goals at the World Cup and is a valuable contender for the Golden Boot. The best thing is that she has done so in only 200 minutes, while also providing three assists. Her quality is unmatched across the field which is supported by her scoring those three strikes on an xG of just 0.7. Against a tough Nigerian defense, her creativity and striking skills could really help England grab the advantage.

England vs Nigeria Prediction
The Lionesses have been possession monsters at this year’s tournament, as shown in the stats table above. They can really suck the life out of this game for Nigeria and my fear is that the Super Falcons will not be able to beat England on the counter or in the one-to-two stationary attempts that might fall their way.
They were held to goose eggs against both Canada and Ireland, and we know for a fact that England’s defense will be more challenging, especially if they go to a trio of central defenders, as they did against China.

England seems to be very comfortable in tight matches too, navigating 1-0 wins over both Haiti and Denmark. While some might see this as an underperformance, I think it does show how disciplined this team is in game management. Against Nigeria, a 1-0 or even 0-0 scoreline will be very possible late on, and having watched those past performances, I am confident they will see out a victory.
Nonetheless, from a betting angle, I am going to ride with my two aforementioned picks, the under on 2.5 total goals at -115 and Lauren James to score at +185.
Final England vs Nigeria Picks: Under on 2.5 total goals (-115), Lauren James to score (+185)
