After their 4-0 rout of Dortmund last week, Barcelona became the +200 favorite in the Champions League odds, followed closely by PSG at +225. Villa (+10000) and Borussia Dortmund (+50000) have the longest odds of the eight remaining teams.

Aston Villa vs PSG Prediction & Picks

The Villains were thoroughly outclassed in the 3-1 loss in Paris last week, just as Liverpool had been in the round of 16 (despite the Reds leaving with a stunning 1-0 victory). PSG held 76% of possession, fired 29 shots at goal (10 on target) and generated 1.95 xGF. Villa had seven shots, two on target, and 0.74 xGF.

Morgan Rogers’ first-half goal which briefly gave Villa a 1-0 lead went completely against the run of play.

In the round of 16, when PSG came to Liverpool trailing 1-0 on aggregate, the Parisians showed they aren’t reliant on home cooking. PSG was full value for its 1-0 full-time victory (and eventual advancement on penalties). They generated 2.63 xGF against the Reds at Anfield to Liverpool’s 1.59, held 54% of possession, and had eight shots on target to Liverpool’s three including extra time.

The sense of urgency will, obviously, be on the other foot today, though. Aston Villa need to make up a two-goal deficit, which will force them to play on the front foot from the opening kick. Villa has won four straight home matches (all competitions) and hasn’t lost at home since falling 2-1 to Crystal Palace on October 30th, a run of 17 straight unbeaten at Villa Park.

As a result, there are two bets I like today: Aston Villa to score first (+) and Aston Villa +0.5 goals ()

Aston Villa vs PSG Picks:

  • Aston Villa to score first goal (+125) at bet365
  • Aston Villa +0.5 (-140) at bet365

Dortmund vs Barcelona Prediction & Picks

If not for this quarterfinal appearance in the UCL, Dortmund’s season would be a relative disaster. After finishing fifth in the Bundesliga last year, they’re an ugly eighth so far this season with just a +9 goal difference through 29 games. Only six of the 18 top-flight German teams have allowed more goals than Dortmund’s 45.

That suspect (to be kind) defense reared its head last week in the 4-0 loss at Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. Barcelona was able to generate a multitude of high-quality scoring chances (3.69 xGF) and keeper Wojciech Szczesny kept out all three Dortmund attempts on target.

Barca has been on an absolutely brilliant run away from home, as well. The Catalans have won eight straight away matches dating back to a 1-1 draw at Gegate on Jan. 18th. They haven’t lost an away game since falling 4-2 at Osasuna on Sep. 28th. That span includes victories at Real Madrid (4-0 on Oct. 26th), Benfica twice (5-4 on Jan. 21st, 1-0 on Mar. 5th), Atletico Madrid (4-2 on Mar. 16th), and this same Dortmund group (3-2 on Dec. 11th) in UCL group play.

Hansi Flick’s team is thriving in hostile environments, and I don’t expect that to change on Tuesday. Dortmund will have no choice but to press forward and take chances, exposing what is already a subpar defense to constant counterattacks.

Dortmund vs Barcelona Picks:

  • Barcelona -1.5 (+210) at bet365
  • Over 3.5 goals (+100) at FanDuel
