BVB finished as runners-up in Group G behind Manchester City and come into this match in top form, winning every single game since the World Cup break. As for the Blues, they finished first in Group E but have been struggling immensely since the turn of the year.

Over/Under & Spread
The total is set at 2.5 goals, with the over and under both sitting at -110 in the Dortmund vs Chelsea odds. The Black and Yellows are scoring their fair share lately, while the Blues are utterly hopeless in front of goal in recent weeks.
Dortmund vs Chelsea Preview
The German giants couldn’t be heading into this encounter in better shape. Ever since Bundesliga football returned, Edin Terzic’s side has been firing on all cylinders, notching six straight wins across all competitions. Saturday was a 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julian Brandt producing the goods in the final third.

Dortmund is now just three points behind league leaders Bayern and owns a fantastic record at Signal Iduna this term in both league and Champions League action, tasting defeat just once. In fact, they’ve lost just four of their last 21 games in the competition on home soil. English clubs appear to be their kryptonite though, going winless in the previous 10 meetings with Premier League oppositions.

Chelsea finds themselves in very unfamiliar territory domestically, sitting 10th in the table and a whole 10 points off a Champions League spot. To be frank, it’s been a miserable campaign for the club, despite their historic transfer window. Scoring goals remains a problem, netting only four times since 2023 began. The need for a proven striker is real.

Saturday was another disappointing result, too. Joao Felix put the Blues ahead early courtesy of a world-class assist from Enzo Fernandez but just 12 minutes later, former player Emerson equalized for West Ham. Despite controlling 72% of the ball, Chelsea couldn’t find a winner, settling for a lone point. Europe is their only opportunity to actually win some hardware this season, therefore the Blues will be all-in. That being said, Dortmund won’t be an easy opponent by any means.
Dortmund vs Chelsea Projected Lineups & Injuries
Dortmund Projected Lineup: Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Guerreiro; Bellingham, Can; Adeyemi, Reus, Brandt; Haller
Injuries & Absences: Moukoko, Wolf, Kamara, Morey
Chelsea Projected Lineup: Arrizabalaga; James, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly, Chilwell; Loftus-Cheek, Fernandez; Mount, Felix, Mudryk; Havertz
Injuries & Absences: Kante, Mendy, Pulisic, Broja, Santos, Aubameyang, Badiashile, Fofana, Madueke, W. Fofana, Sterling, Kovacic, Zakaria, Koulibaly
Dortmund lost youngster Youssoufa Moukoko to an injury over the weekend and is unlikely to feature here. He’s the most notable absence for the hosts.
As for Chelsea, they’re injury-ridden as usual. Several of the names above were left out of Graham Potter’s UCL squad, while the likes of Christian Pulisic, Armando Broja, and Raheem Sterling are nursing injuries. Kalidou Koulibaly is dealing with an illness, but he could very well play Wednesday regardless.
Dortmund vs Chelsea Prediction
I frankly have zero belief in Chelsea these days and they’re far from reliable up top. Dortmund meanwhile is flying high and will fancy their chances at home. I’m taking the Germans to find a huge result before heading to Stamford Bridge next month in my Dortmund vs Chelsea picks.
