With the new Premier League campaign set to start on September 12th, it’s time to look at who could win the scoring race this term. Last season, Jamie Vardy just edged out Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton’s Danny Ings for the Golden Boot, bagging 23 goals, just one more than his counterparts.
However, Vardy isn’t favored to win the prestigious award again, with just +1400 Premier League Golden Boot odds in the sportsbooks. As of right now, Harry Kane looks to be the favorite alongside Aubameyang.

Can Kane Win Third EPL Golden Boot?
After winning back to back Golden Boots from 2015-17, Kane hasn’t been able to capture another. The 2017/18 campaign was another tremendous one for the Englishmen, netting 30 goals. However, it was overshadowed by Mo Salah’s breakout season with Liverpool, where he scored 32 times and took home the award.

Last season, Kane dealt with a serious hamstring injury that left him out of Tottenham’s squad for a few months, ultimately hurting his chances at another Golden Boot. But, the 27-year old still managed to find the back of the net 18 times in just 29 appearances. He’s a natural-born goal-scorer and although Kane may not be the most electric athlete in the final third, he’s got an innate ability to always be in the right place at the right time on the attack. Experience and clinical abilities in front of goal have resulted in numerous breathtaking seasons for the Spurs striker.
Aubameyang, Aguero, And Salah Also in the Running
Aubameyang has been one of the most lethal finishers in Europe over the last number of years, bagging a mind-boggling number of goals in Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne, then moving on to Dortmund, where he became one of their all-time leading scorers.
The Gabonese international is now considered one of the top strikers in England, having scored 22 goals in each of the last two seasons for Mikel Arteta’s side. His pace, off-the-ball movement, and ruthlessness in the final third make him a heavy favorite to bag another 20+ goals this season. There have been rumors that he could leave the club, but with Arsenal bringing in a number of exciting new talents, I think he will stay put.

Aguero is arguably Manchester City’s greatest striker ever, but age is catching up with him. Nonetheless, he still managed to score 16 goals in 2018/19. He missed City’s Champions League run due to a knee injury that occurred in June, in which he ended up having surgery. With Lionel Messi possibly coming to the Etihad, it could seriously change things for Aguero in regards to playing time if his countryman decided to join Pep Guardiola’s side.
After a world-class 2017/18 season where he won the Golden Boot after netting 32 times, Salah has put up solid numbers in the last two campaigns as well. In 2018/19, the Egyptian scored 19 goals, playing a vital part in Liverpool’s quest to a Premier League title. Along with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, these three form an electric partnership on the attack for Jurgen Klopp. Expect a boatload of goals once again from this trio.
As for Vardy, he will be at the forefront for Leicester again. But, it’s not going to be the same type of season for the 33-year old. He’ll score goals, but won’t be in contention for a Golden Boot.
Werner Could Surprise
After being linked with Liverpool for a substantial amount of time, Chelsea swooped in and won the Timo Werner sweepstakes this summer, offering him the chance at more playing time compared to a congested frontline at Anfield. The German international has been one of the top strikers in the world over the last few years, putting together several quality campaigns with RB Leipzig.

Last season, the youngster found the back of the net 28 times in just 34 league appearances. Known for his speed, footwork, and lethal finishing, Werner could definitely find his fair share of goals in the Premier League this term. There’s no doubt it’s a tougher and more physical league than the Bundesliga, but the 24-year old possesses the talent to excel at a high level with the Blues.
Best Bet
Kane is a world-class striker. There’s no doubt about it. But, so is Aubameyang, and I believe he is going to win his first Golden Boot in the Premier League. Arsenal is looking very promising with a number of vibrant players that Arteta brought in this summer. With this in mind, there’s a sense of positivity at the Emirates. Aubemeyang has proven year after year that he can contribute a high number of goals. This will be his time to win the scoring title in England’s top-flight.
Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang +500
