Aston Villa plays host to Newcastle United in England’s Premier League on Saturday with both teams desperate for a win.
After a shut-down caused by a coronavirus outbreak, Villa has played only once in the EPL since January 1. They have lost their two most recent league matches.
At Newcastle, manager Steve Bruce has been coming under pressure after a dismal run of five defeats and two draws in the last seven league games.

The oddsmakers at DraftKings make Villa wide favorites for a win at -210 at 3:00 pm ET on Saturday.
Struggling Newcastle are a long +550 for a victory with the draw at +360.

Given the recent form of both sides, the draw looks to be the best value here.
With both teams eliminated from the FA Cup which resumes this weekend, they meet in an EPL fixture which was postponed on December 4.
Spotlight on Coach Bruce
There will be a huge focus on Newcastle boss Bruce as speculation mounts that he may be facing the axe.
His side are in 15th place and last won on December 12 when they secured a 2-1 home win against struggling West Bromwich Albion – eight league games ago.

The current poor run began with a crushing 5-2 defeat at Leeds United on December 16 and things have nose-dived since then.
Although there was one brief uplift with a 0-0 draw away against champions Liverpool on December 30, they have lost the subsequent three EPL games.
Newcastle handed a first win of the season to bottom club Sheffield United when they succumbed 1-0 away from home.
First came a 2-1 defeat at home against high-flying Leicester City.

In their last league outing last Monday, they went down 3-0 at resurgent Arsenal.
There is still a cushion of seven points between Newcastle and the relegation zone.
Even so, their current form is the worst in the competition with just two points earned from the last 21 available.

Dean Smith’s Villa team sit 11th in the table. Yet this may present a false picture because they have three games in hand over Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham United and two in hand over Southampton.
These are the four sides directly above them in the standings.
Inconsistency Hampers Villa
Villa has shown promise at times in this campaign – hammering Liverpool 7-2 back in October. And three points in this fixture would send them above Chelsea, Southampton and Arsenal into eighth place. But they have been inconsistent.
For example, in late December, they went on a run of three wins and two draws which began with an impressive 1-0 victory away against local Midlands rivals Wolves on December 17.

It also included a 1-1 draw away at Chelsea.
However, their form has plummeted since the turn of the year in what was an admittedly tough pair of fixtures.
🎙 Steve Bruce ahead of #AVLNEW:
"The good news for everybody is that Saint-Maximin is in the squad. He's trained well all week and his fitness levels are very, very good. We have to get the balance right and I wouldn't expect him to be starting but he'll be in the squad." pic.twitter.com/X6rURqBTmN

They lost 2-1 at Manchester United on New Year’s Day. Then they fell 2-0 at Manchester City in their most recent EPL outing last Wednesday.
It is likely that this down-turn has been influenced by the fact that Villa had to close their training ground for ten days after a COVID-19 outbreak.
Very worryingly for Newcastle, they have scored just once in their last five EPL matches.
This will be Villa’s first home league game since a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace on December 26; their most recent league win.

Indeed, they have failed to hit the target on their last three visits to Villa Park stretching back to 2013.
In the away form table, they are the 17th in the competition with two wins on the road, two draws and five defeats.

Against that, Villa have not been particularly successful at home with only three wins, one draw and three defeats – the 15th worst record at their own HQ in the league.
In the last 12 EPL meetings between these clubs, Villa have won only once.

That came the last time they collided at Villa, with a 2-0 win for the home side in November 2019.
There was a 1-1 draw at Newcastle when they last competed against each other back in June.
Pick: Draw +360
