NASCAR heads out to the Midwest with a Sunday afternoon race after last week’s crazy Geico 500 with the running of the Buschy McBusch Race 400 on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021. Denny Hamlin is a +550 favorite to take home the checkered flag in the Buschy McBusch Race 400 odds.

Unfortunately, the 40-year-old had some “aggression issue” he will have to curtail in order to win this weekend. Past winner Kevin Harvick is a +900 bet, while Brad Keselowski sports an intriguing +850 odds after winning last week. Lastly, Kyle Larson comes in at +750 after his car was derailed last week due to yes, a piece of metal being stuck near the engine.

Denny Hamlin Tries Once More

NASCAR drivers run on a 1.5-mile asphalt track when the flag drops for the Sunday afternoon race beginning just after 3:00 PM EST. That track has been good to Denny Hamlin, who has won at Kansas Speedway three times, including last year’s Spring race. Hamlin finished 32nd in last week’s Geico 500 after that end of Stage 2 wreck. Hamlin’s overaggressive driving proved to be undoing.

Hamlin also had contact with Joey Logano, who went airborne earlier in the race. However, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has performed well at Kansas. He won the 2019 Fall event to go along with the 2020 Spring race. Hamlin has led 57 or more laps in his last three starts on the asphalt track.

Now, Hamlin will be starting from the 20th position on Sunday afternoon thanks to NASCAR metrics. Throwing out last week’s race, the No. 11 has been excellent at staying near the front of the field. Hamlin excels at the 17-20 degree banked turns like few others (aside from maybe Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski). Expect a much different result than last week.

Kevin Harvick Feels At Home At Kansas

Sports bettors should look at the history of the Spring race at Kansas the past several years, as seen above. The Stewart-Haas driver won this Spring race three years ago and led the most laps three times in a row. Harvick is listed in the top ten in NASCAR Cup Series odds, but the 45-year-old has struggled at times in the first ten races. He does have seven top-ten finishes but no wins in 2021.

Harvick managed to finish fourth at Talladega despite a speeding penalty and a few bumps along the way. Again, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver excels on the Kansas track. He led 85 laps in the Fall version of the race last year and nearly won, finishing in second place. This was after another top-five race in the first Kansas race. It is safe to say that Harvick will be around the front on Sunday and may have the best chance to win.

Can Brad Keselowski Keep Momentum Rolling At Kansas?

The Team Penske driver won last week at Talladega and has the added bonus of winning on this track two years ago. Keselowski finished second and fourth last year on the Kansas track. The Team Penske driver led a total of 36 laps and is currently sixth in the Cup Series standings. Keselowski will start from the pole on Sunday afternoon.

When Keselowski won in 2019, he took advantage of the overtime and never looked back. Most people forget that the Team Penske driver qualified in the top ten in seven straight races at the Kansas speedway without being on the pole.

Both races in 2020 saw Keselowski stay near the front and was in contention pretty much throughout. The Team Penske driver has a good chance to win, but taking a top-three finish is the safer bet. Keselowski has incredible numbers at Kansas (top-six in four of the last five starts) and favorable +850 odds to win along with +240 odds to finish in the top three at the Buschy McBusch Race 400.
