Max Verstappen will be aiming to build on his clean sweep performance two weeks ago at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix when he hits the track on Sunday for the inaugural running of the Miami Grand Prix as a -105 favorite. It has been feast or famine so far this season for the defending Formula 1 champion, who has taken home the checkered flag on two occasions, but also failed to finish two races. Verstappen is closely trailed by Charles Leclerc, who sports short +115 odds. The talented Ferrari driver has stormed to the top of the F1 drivers standings with two wins and three podium finishes, but is on the rebound after a costly driving error dropped him to sixth place two weeks ago in Imola.
Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of the running of the 2022 Miami Grand Prix, which scheduled for 3:30 pm ET on Sunday afternoon at Miami International Autodrome.

What to Expect from New Miami Track
With Formula 1 marking its Miami debut with a race on a brand new track on the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium, there is no shortage of unknowns heading into the weekend. The track measures 3.363 miles (5.412 km) in length, and features three significant straightaways, along with three DRS zones that will provide ample opportunity for overtaking throughout the day.

The lengthy straightaways should work to the advantage of both Verstappen and his Red Bull partner Sergio Perez, as well as the vastly improved Ferraris driven by Leclerc and his teammate Carlos Sainz.
Red Bull have upped the ante in their title fight with Ferrari by suggesting Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz made Emilia Romagna GP mistakes because of the "real pressure" they were under as a result of the 2022 battle.#F1

Not surprisingly, both Red Bull and Ferrari sport attractive +150 odds of producing a double-podium finish. However, considering Sainz’ recent struggles to finish, and Perez arriving in Miami on the heels of consecutive second-place performances, it is Red Bull that offers the greater value on those odds.
Verstappen in the Zone
Sports bettors fade Max Verstappen at their own peril at this weekend’s race. The 24-year-old struggled with technical problems that ended his day in both Bahrain and Australia. However, it was vintage Verstappen two weeks ago in Imola.

Max Verstappen's victory at the 2022 Emilia Romagna GP is the second grand slam (pole, fastest lap, win and leading every lap) he has achieved in his career. The first came in Austria 2021.

Verstappen took full advantage of the sprint qualifying format used for the first time this season at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, seizing a bonus eight points for claiming the pole position with a first-place finish in the sprint. The champion then followed up with a wire-to-wire drive to victory while also adding another bonus point for fastest lap.

With that performance, Verstappen closed the gap on frontrunner Leclerc to 29 points in the Drivers Standings. It also gave him a big boost in the F1 championship futures, where he not sits alongside Leclerc as a -105 co-favorite. The question now is whether he can do it again in Miami, and the short answer is yes. The long straightaways are well suited to his Red Bull ride, and the three DRS zones will provide him with ample opportunity to make up ground, if necessary. In addition, it is unwise to underestimate the importance of Perez in his role as “Mexican Minister of Defence”, running interference for Verstappen when he enjoys a lead.
Miami Grand Prix Picks
While Verstappen offers solid value as the favorite to take the pole and win the race, there remains plenty of betting options to consider further down the odds. Lando Norris has shown steady improvement through the first four races of the season, capped by a third-place finish in Imola. Overall, the McLaren driver has finished in the points in 12 of 13 outings, and is worthy of consideration as a -130 bet to crack the top six for the third time in as many races.

Kicked to the curb by Mercedes last season, Valtteri Bottas has found new life with Alfa Romeo this year. The 32-year-old Finn has finished in points in three of four races this season, including a fifth-place outing in Imola that now leaves him trailing former teammate Lewis Hamilton by just four points in the standings. And while a podium finish in Miami is likely too much to ask, Bottas offers intriguing value as a +195 bet to return to the top six this time around.
The Picks: Red Bull double podium (+150); Lando Norris top six (-130)
