Max Verstappen will be aiming to widen his lead atop the Formula 1 Drivers Standings when he hits the track for Sunday’s running of the Styrian Grand Prix as a +125 co-favorite. Verstappen overcame a shaky start to last weekend’s French Grand Prix, eventually overtaking archrival Lewis Hamilton to claim his third victory of the season. Perched alongside Verstappen atop the Styrian Grand Prix odds, Hamilton trails Verstappen in the F1 Drivers Championship odds and is currently mired in his longest stretch without a win since the start of the 2018 F1 season.
Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas round out the favorites at +800 and +1000, respectively. Perez is coming off yet another stellar run in France, while Bottas’ woes continued last weekend when Mercedes’ failed strategy doomed him to a fourth-place finish.
Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of the 2nd running of the Styrian Grand Prix at Red Bull Ring on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM EST.

Mercedes’ Woes Continue in France
The winner in the inaugural edition of this race last summer, Lewis Hamilton will be aiming to regain his winning touch on a track bearing the name of his biggest rivals. With Mercedes getting outwitted last weekend by Red Bull Racing, who adopted a mixed pit stop strategy to perfection to claim two spots on the podium, Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas will have their work cut out for them.

With last weekend’s second-place finish, Hamilton has now reached the podium just once in his past three outings after taking home the checkered flag in three of the first four races of the season. The seven-time defending F1 champion has gotten a taste of the struggles that his chief rival Max Verstappen has endured in recent years. Hamilton has not enjoyed the steady support on the track that he has come accustomed to receiving from Bottas, who has endured a tough season marred by bad luck and bad decision-making by Mercedes brass. Conversely, the addition of Perez to the Red Bull roster has been a boon for Verstappen.

Perez Shines as Bottas Struggles
That remained true again last week. Following another solid qualifying session, Perez started alongside Bottas in the second row, leaving him well positioned to execute Red Bull’s strategy that had him make just one pit stop while Verstappen made two. That enabled Perez to lead the way midway for a substantial stretch of the race and provided Verstappen with the opportunity to stage his late-race comeback and overtake Hamilton, on his way to victory.

As for Bottas, it was another weekend of frustration. Ignored by Mercedes strategists when he alerted them mid-race that he would need to make two pit stops, The veteran Finn was unable to maintain his position in the top three, with his fourth-place performance marking his third straight finish off the podium.
That's one very frustrated Finn 😖

However, given his history on this track at Red Bull Ring, it is tough to bet against Bottas bouncing back this weekend. The 31-year-old finished first and second respectively in the two races run here last season, and has reached the podium in four of his past five appearances at Red Bull Ring, including a pair of victories. Despite his recent woes and uncertain future with the German automaker, Bottas remains a solid +120 bet to finish top three.
Vettel Poised to Make Gains
Another veteran driver seeking redemption on this track is Sebastian Vettel. The four-time F1 champion turned in a pair of dismal performances in Austria last year, earning just one total point in the two season-opening races at Red Bull Ring. However, Vett6el has looked increasingly comfortable behind the wheel of his new ride at Aston Marin, finishing in the points in each of his past three outings, including a season-best second-place performance in Azerbaijan.

Vettel also finished fourth or better in three of four outings at Red Bull Ring prior to last year and offers solid value as a +350 bet to finish among the top six this time around.
The Picks: Valtteri Bottas top three (+120); Sebastian Vettel top six (+350)
