- Martin Truex Jr. won the spring race at this track while Kevin Harvick won the race in 2018.
The NASCAR series heads to Pocono Raceway for the 2019 Gander RV 400. The race will take place on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 3:00 pm EST. Martin Truex Jr. won the first Pocono race (in spring) but is he the best bet to win Sunday’s race? While he’s among the favorites, there is some good value for a few drivers to finish in the Top 10.

An Encore for Harvick
Last week, we pegged Harvick as the ideal pick to hedge your bet on Kyle Busch with as he seemed destined to break his winless streak to open the season. Harvick ended up winning the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 straight up, rewarding our faith in him with a much-needed victory.

While he has never won this race before, Harvick has registered an average finish of 6.3 in his last six Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series appearances at this track. Now that the monkey is off his back, Harvick should feel much more comfortable and confident. Bet him to finish in the Top 10.
Busch Back in the Top 10?
Busch has failed to place inside the Top 10 in five of his last eight races. However, one of those Top 10 finishes was a win at Kentucky two weeks ago and it’s clear that Busch is capable of much more going forward.

The fact that he is a four-time winner at Pocono Raceway, including winning this race in particular twice, makes him an intriguing pick that might fly under the radar this weekend.
He has two Top 10’s and a Top 5 in his last five starts here, finishing in the Top 20 every time. He’s a good flier for a Top 10 prop.
Past 5 Winners at Gander RV 400
Year | Winning Driver |
---|---|
2018 | Martin Truex Jr. |
2017 | Kevin Harvick |
2016 | Jimmie Johnson |
2015 | Matt Kenseth |
2014 | Jimmie Johnson |
Blaney a Good Bet?
Digging a little deeper on the list of potential sleeper picks for this week, Blaney is definitely an interesting play. The driver of the No. 12 Ford for Penske Championship Racing has recorded Top 10 finishes in four of his last six starts – including three top-six results.

He should be right there once again as his average finishing at Pocono is 12.20 over his last five outings, including two Top 10’s, one of which was a win. Of all of the tracks Blaney has raced at since 2014, this is his fourth-bet in terms of average finish in that span. Take a shot with him for a Top 10 prop.
Pass on Keselowski
The fact that Keselowski isn’t available at better odds should be a major red flag from a sports betting perspective. While he still ranks third in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings, Keselowski has finished outside of the Top 9 in four of his last five races overall.

His best finish over that span is a fifth-place result from Chicago on June 30. While Keselowski is going to eventually get back on track, I’m hesitant to back him until he actually does. I’m not backing him to win outright this week.
