- The latest political prop suggests Donald Trump will not resigning the Presidency before the end of his first term
- As long as the Republicans control the Senate, it’s doubtful that Trump will ever be impeached
- Richard Nixon in 1974 is the only President in US history to tender his resignation
Donald Trump resigning the Presidency? Yeah, don’t hold your breath waiting for it.
Wishful thinking is that Trump will ultimately tender his resignation as Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether there was collusion with Russia during the 2016 election comes closer to ensnaring him and his family.
There is a #trumpresign hashtag on social media, and even a @Trumpresign feed on Twitter.
It appears @realdonaldtrump just blocked me for this tweet. https://t.co/DqK5wUQTHM

Anyone who has followed Trump’s career, either before or since he was elected President, knows that this will never happen. It’s no wonder that the latest prop bet on whether Trump will resign the Presidency prior to the conclusion of his first term is strongly weighted toward no.

Resigning? Never Trump
If you think that Trump is the resigning type, then you really haven’t been paying attention. This is a man who has lived his life always getting his way, never being held responsible for his bad deeds.
"People are still expecting Trump to get owned, to be proven to be a fraud. Children of narcissists know better."

Trump built himself a national audience through a television show where it was his sole job to fire people.
People don’t get to fire him. In the days leading up to the 2016 Presidential election, Trump kept insisting the election was rigged against him and that he might not be willing to accept the outcome if he lost the vote.

He made similar claims of rigged elections and voter fraud prior to the November 2018 mid-terms. Think this is a guy who will leave the Oval Office willingly?
Could Anything Make Trump Go?
There is speculation that the thought of going to jail, or perhaps that one or more of his children might be incarcerated could be enough incentive to make Trump cut and run.
Again, though, we’re being asked against all evidence to the contrary to assume that this man has a conscience or an ounce of empathy for anyone who isn’t him.
The Trump campaign, Trump transition, Trump inauguration, Trump White House, Trump administration, Trump family, Trump friends, Trump Org & Trump foundation are all under investigation. If only we could find the one criminal that ties it all together. Could be @realDonaldTrump 🤔

As long as he has the backing of the Republican-controlled Senate, Trump will feel no real pressure to resign, because while the Democrat-controlled House could impeach Trump, the Senate would need to convict him.
If Mueller determines that Trump obstructed justice, two-thirds of the country thinks Congress should move toward impeachment — including a third of Republicans. https://t.co/Va1MegQjgY

Faced with the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon didn’t resign the Presidency until it was apparent that he’d lost Republican support and impeachment was almost certain.
This time, even that may not matter, because Trump isn’t Nixon.
Remember the days when saying someone wasn’t like Nixon was a good thing?
