  • A strong Super Tuesday performance has moved Joe Biden into the -275 favorite’s role to win the 2020 Democratic Presidential nomination
  • Biden was the winner in nine of the 14 state primaries held on Tuesday. Has he derailed the Bernie Sanders train?
  • All of the Super Tuesday results and how they impact the odds on the race are right here

Joe Biden’s week just keeps getting better. His chances of snaring the 2020 Democratic Presidential nomination grew stronger.

He was anything but an average Joe on Super Tuesday. The former Vice-President won nine of the 14 state primaries that were held. The result was that his edge in the 2020 Democratic Nomination odds over previous frontrunner Bernie Sanders only continues to widen.

By late Tuesday, sportsbooks pegged Biden as the -275 odds-on favorite to earn the nomination. Sanders, who up until Monday had led the odds since early February, finds himself at +200.

2020 Democratic Presidential Nomination Odds

Candidate Odds
Joe Biden -275
Bernie Sanders +200
Michael Bloomberg +2000
Hillary Clinton +3000
Elizabeth Warren +5000
Michelle Obama +10000
Tulsi Gabbard +50000

Odds taken March 3rd.

Biden began the day Tuesday as the -140 chalk.

Joltin’ Joe Makes His Move

Pundits were prepared to put the Biden campaign out to pasture when their candidate came fourth in the Iowa caucus and limped home fifth in the New Hampshire primary. As it turned out, Joe was just Biden his time.

He was second in the Nevada caucus and followed that up with a resounding win in Saturday’s South Carolina primary. Monday brought about a seismic shift in the odds when first Pete Buttigieg and later Amy Klobuchar dropped out of the Democratic race.

Both candidates threw their support behind Biden. Former Democratic Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke also announced his support for Biden on Monday.

By Tuesday morning, Biden had overtaken Sanders to become the frontrunner at all the major online sportsbooks.

Biden Sweeps South

Biden was indeed Super Tuesday man. He deep-sixed Sanders in the South. Alabama, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Arkansas all went for Biden.

Other states won by Biden on Super Tuesday included Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Minnesota. Maine was a virtual tie between Biden and Sanders.

Bernie’s Not Done Yet

As much as the Democratic establishment sought to put a dagger into the Sanders campaign on Super Tuesday, he was well ahead in the early returns from the major state of California. Biden made a late run there to finish second.

Sanders was also a winner in his home state of Vermont. He took top spot in Colorado and Utah as well.

Democratic Push for Biden

As of late Tuesday, Biden owned a 269-239 delegate lead over Sanders. Both candidates are still a long way from the 1,991 delegates required to secure the nomination.

However, Monday’s backroom dealing and the ensuing endorsements for Biden clearly displayed who the power brokers within the party want to see leading them into battle against Republican incumbent Donald Trump.

It’s hard to believe that as recently as mid-February, Biden’s average odds to win the Democratic Presidential nomination had climbed to +1047. At the same time, Sanders was the +117 favorite.

The crowded stage of Democratic candidates has been whittled down to a two-person race. It’s the progressive Sanders facing off against the moderate Biden.

In the past couple of days, several prominent Democrats made it clear by their actions who they want to see as their nominee.

It made for a Super Tuesday for Biden. If you didn’t bet him by Monday, now is probably too late.

At least it is if you were hoping to get a price.
