  • The Minnesota Wild (38-25-5) host the Seattle Kraken (30-34-5) Wednesday night looking for some breathing room in the NHL wild card standings.
  • Minnesota is a 1.5-goal favorite at home. Each of the last four meetings between these two franchises have hit the over.
  • I’m all over this Wednesday night hockey showdown between the Kraken and the Wild with a prediction, pick and preview.

The Seattle Kraken (30-34-5; 34-35 ATS) visit the Minnesota Wild (38-25-5, 33-35 ATS) at the Xcel Center for a Wednesday night hockey clash. Puck drop is at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The Wild have a six-point lead on the Canucks for the first wild card spot in the Western Conference. Seattle is 10 points out of the last spot and fading.

I’ve got you covered for this Wednesday night hockey battle in Minnesota with a prediction, pick and tips on the best odds.

Kraken vs Wild Prediction

The Wild were the big story in the NHL the first two months of the season, but have basically played .500 hockey since Christmas. The Wild’s offense has stagnated and ranks 26th in the NHL in goals scored, but the defense is one of the best in the NHL at even strength. The Wild’s penalty kill actually ranks 30th in the league. That’s awful.

Seattle is playing out the string in 2025, they made some trades at the deadline to get younger. Kraken forward Chandler Stevenson has scored points in six straight games.

I like Minnesota to win comfortably. The Wild are coming off a win over the Kings Monday, while this is the second game of a back-to-back for the Kraken. Seattle played in Chicago Tuesday night and scored a 6-2 win over the hapless Blackhawks.

Minnesota just has more to play for and they have two big offensive weapons in Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi, who have 21 goals apiece.

The Wild have won five of the last seven meetings between the two teams. Seattle won 5-4 in a shootout back in October, while Minnesota won 4-3 on March 4.

The numbers don’t really favor the over here (neither of these two teams score a lot), but that’s the way I am leaning. Seattle is going to be a tired team after playing Tuesday night, and I think that means the Wild will get plenty of chances to score.

Defense is the Wild’s strength. Filip Gustavsson has 26 wins between the pipes for the Wild (I bet he gets the start) and 40-year-old Marc Andre Fleury is still going strong. He has made 22 starts for the Wild and has a .904 save percentage.

I like the Wild to cover. They have too much to play for compared to the Kraken.

The Wild are just 16-15-2 at home, but are 12 games above .500 in their road sweaters. I’ll just say it. That’s weird. The Wild have lost four of their last six against the spread and five of their last six games have hit the under.

Minnesota is 29-36-3 over/under this season, while the Kraken are 33-31-5 over/under. Seattle is 3-2 against the spread in its last five and three of its last four games have gone over.

Minnesota is 1.5-goal favorites everywhere, but I did see it as 1.0-goal at BetRivers. The total is 5.5 at all the good spots. I’ve seen Seattle +150 moneyline at BetMGM and Minnesota at -175 at DraftKings. Those are the best moneyline bets I see.
