- The Boston Bruins are -180 home favorites to defeat the San Jose Sharks in an NHL game slated for Sunday afternoon
- The 4-0 Sharks are in second place in the Pacific Division
- Boston is 7-0 straight up in the last seven games against San Jose
The last time the San Jose Sharks opened the season 4-0, they went to the Stanley Cup final. That was in 2015-16.
It was also the last season in which the Sharks beat the Boston Bruins. San Jose swept both games from Boston during the 2015-16 campaign. The Sharks are 0-7 against Boston ever since.
Oddsmakers aren’t thinking that streak is about to change. As these teams meet on Sunday at TD Garden, it’s the Bruins who are listed as -180 favorites.

Puck drop for Sunday’s afternoon tilt is 1:08pm ET. Boston has won four in a row at home over San Jose. The Bruins have outscored the Sharks 17-6 in the process and are favored by Canada online betting.
Slick Sharks
Some things old and some things new are both proving to be keys to the surprising early resurgence for a San Jose club expected to be more involved in the draft lottery than the NHL playoff odds.
A stellar third-line anchored by veterans Kevin Labanc, Nick Bonino and Matt Nieto is getting the job done at both ends of the ice.

Timo Meier, another veteran forward, is among the NHL scoring leaders with 2-5-7 totals through four games. Rookie Jonathan Dahlen, who was playing last season with Timra IK in HockeyAllsvenskan, the Swedish second division, has three goals through his first four NHL games.
Banged Up Bruins
Already without forwards Nick Foligno and Anton Blidh, the Bruins (2-1) may also be minus Craig Smith on Sunday. The veteran forward is listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury. Expectations are that forward Jack Studnicka will get a recall from AHL Providence.

Veteran left-winger Brad Marchand has three goals and five points through the first three games. Forwards Taylor Hall (2-1-3), Charlie Coyle (1-2-3) and David Pastrnak (1-2-3) are all averaging a point per game.
Bruins vs Sharks Projected Starting Goalies
Team | Goalie | Record | SV% | GAA |
---|---|---|---|---|
Boston | Linus Ullmark | 1-0-0 | .972 | 1.00 |
San Jose | Adin Hill | 3-0-0 | .922 | 2.00 |
Linus was providing a security blanket at the back for Boston in his Bruins debut. Ullmark blocked 35 shots, beating his old club the Buffalo Sabres 4-1.
He earned himself a second successive start with the performance. Ullmark beat the Sharks 4-3 in his only previous appearance against them on October 19, 2019.
Sharks goalie Adin Hill is 3-0. However, he’s 0-1 all-time against the Bruins. He lost 4-3 to Boston on February 18, 2020. Coyle scored two goals for the Bruins in that game.
Going back to last season, Hill has won four straight starts. The streak was oddly enough launched with a win over San Jose while Hill was tending goal for the Arizona Coyotes.
Bruins vs Sharks Pick & Prediction
San Jose’s last win at Boston was a 5-4 verdict on November 17, 2015.
The Sharks lead the NHL in GAA (1.75) and on the penalty kill (100%). They are seventh in the league in goals per game (4.00) and fifth on the power play (33.3%). San Jose is allowing the second-fewest shots per game (27) in the NHL.

Boston is 22nd in the NHL with the man advantage (16.7%). The Bruins are seventh in the league in shots on goal per game (35.3).
The total has gone under in four of the past six Sharks-Bruins games. In the NHL betting lines, Boston is 7-1 ATS in the last seven games against San Jose. However, the Bruins are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. Boston is 12-3 SU in the club’s past 15 home games.
Pick: Under 6 (-120)
