Action gets underway from T-Mobile Arena in Sin City at 8pm ET, with ABC/ESPN+ providing broadcast coverage.

Detroit starts the day four points back of the Montreal Canadiens for the final Wild Card spot in the East, though there are still three other teams buffering betwen them. That sound you hear is the Detroit Red Wings’ plane tumbling down into the Vegas skyline.

Detroit is fading out of the playoff picture with a rough stretch that’s seen them drop eight of its last 10, including Tuesday’s 4-1 drubbing at the hands of the Washington Capitals.

Scoring continues to be an issue for the Red Wings, who have scored two goals or less in seven of their last 10, all of them resulting in an L.

On the season, Detroit puts up just 2.82 goals per game, just outside of the NHL’s Bottom 10.

That little scoring output doesn’t leave much room for error on the defensive side of the rink, though the Wings haven’t been holding down that part of the bargain either.

Over the last 10 games, they have allowed at least four goals six times, all of them resulting in a loss.

At least they’re not catching Vegas on a current surge, as the Golden Knights have just two wins in the last six games. They are coming off an impressive 5-1 win over the now-hapless Bruins, stopping a two-game slide.

With just a bit too much juice on the Vegas moneyline, I’ll happily take the -1.5 spread for Vegas and the payout that comes with it.
