New York Lost Tough One
New York had come on lately with one of the best records in the last several weeks. The Rangers won eight of their previous 11 games but fell to the New Jersey Devils 2-1. It was a Thursday night battle which could be a preview of a first-round playoff matchup.

Now, New York needs as many points as possible from here on out. Getting right back at it against the Sabres may be the best thing, with a win getting them to the 100-point mark on the season. Traditionally, the Rangers fare quite well versus the Sabres. New York has won six straight and nine of the previous ten matchups.
Will New York continue that dominance on Friday night in Buffalo? The Sabres are playing out the string but could have some influence in how things play out in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers need more from their “Kid Line” who looked more or less invisible against New Jersey on Thursday night.
Jaroslav Halak figures to give Igor Shesterkin the night off. The Vezina Trophy odds sailed away from the Rangers’ starter as his numbers do not stack up to Linus Ullmark and even Ilya Sorokin. Halak has been solid lately winning consecutive starts.
Buffalo Debuts A New Goaltender
With the playoffs reduced to an unlikely pipe dream, the Sabres take a shot at potentially starting a new goaltender. Devon Levi gets the call on Friday night against the New York Rangers. Getting Levi a start against a tough Rangers team is not a bad idea. New York played on Thursday and Buffalo is the rested team.
The Sabres may have Mattias Samuelsson, Jordan Greenway, and Tage Thompson all in the lineup on Friday night versus the Rangers. Buffalo is 28-16-4 when Samuelsson is in the lineup.
With the benefit of hindsight (it remains incredibly weird that the Richter is the one national award voted on at the start of March instead of later) Devon Levi would even more clearly be the landslide Richter winner. Thankfully for Buffalo, the Dahlin-Samuelsson pairing is one of the better duos in the league. If not for that Samuelsson injury, Dahlin might have been able to contend in the Norris Trophy odds race.
Buffalo needs to string wins together and even then would need help to have a chance at the playoffs. Like we mentioned above, the Sabres play for next year once again.

Rangers vs Sabres Prediction
The Rangers and Sabres keep alternating low and high-scoring games in their matchups. Can these two goaltenders withstand the expected intensity and inevitable defensive breakdowns? That will tell the tale in who may win tonight.
Rangers vs Sabres Same-Game Parlay Picks
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
New York Rangers Moneyline | -150 |
Over 6.5 Goals | -110 |
PARLAY ODDS | Â +218 |
The game expects to be less like playoff intensity and more like a game where both teams are willing to trade scoring chances and ultimately goals.
Buffalo needs to stay out of the penalty box given the talent of the New York Rangers’ man advantage. The Sabres rank third in the league in fewest penalty minutes, but their penalty kill is 31st at 72.8%. New York’s power play has clicked at a 25% clip since January 15th. New York’s top-six expects to have success against Buffalo’s and vice versa in an entertaining tilt.
Pick: Over 6.5 Goals (-110)
