Don’t look now, but the team that entered this postseason with the least amount of points is poised to become the first squad to advance to the Conference Finals in the NHL Playoff Bracket.
On Wednesday, May 10th, the Panthers host the Maple Leafs in Game 4 of their first-round series as they try to become the first squad to sweep a team in this year’s playoffs. Faceoff for this matchup is set for 7:00 pm ET with ESPN, CBC and Sportsnet providing broadcast coverage from FLA Live Arena.
Check out the Maple Leafs vs Panthers odds below, while we also offer up our best bet and predictions for this contest.
Maple Leafs vs Panthers Game 4 Odds
Game Time (ET) | Team | Puck Line | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|---|
Wednesday, May 10th | Toronto Maple Leafs | -1.5 (+184) | O 6.5 (-134) | -122 |
7:00 pm | Florida Panthers | +1.5 (-225) | U 6.5 (+110) | +102 |
Even though the Leafs find themselves in an 0-3 hole, it’s the Panthers who are once again underdogs, paying +102 on the moneyline to take a fourth straight game from Toronto.
The over/under total remains at 6.5 goals as it has been throughout this entire series, despite the under hitting in all three games thus far. With their stars in a drought, Toronto has failed to score more than two goals in five straight games.

Leafs Looking To Save Face in NHL Odds
After finally getting over the two-decade hurdle of advancing past the first round, the Leafs are now on the verge of being swept with one more ignominious defeat. Set up as favorites in the Stanley Cup odds following the first round, the Leafs’ stars are caving against Florida.
Maple Leafs Core Four Forwards’ Playoff Stats
Player | vs TB | vs FLA |
---|---|---|
Auston Matthews | 5 G, 4 A, 9 Pts | 0 G, 2 A, 2 Pts |
John Tavares | 4 G, 4 A, 8 Pts | 0 G, 0 A, 0 Pts |
Mitch Marner | 2 G, 9 A, 11 Pts | 0 G, 1 A, 1 Pts |
William Nylander | 2 G, 5 A, 7 Pts | 0 G, 1 A, 1 Pts |
Repeating the same narrative that’s plagued this current crop of players for years, the Leafs’ best players have simply not been their best players this series. After scoring at least once in 81 of Toronto’s 88 games entering this series, Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander have combined for zero goals in this series.
The core four forwards combined for 159 goals through the regular season and first round of the playoffs. You’d have to go back to November of 2021 to find the last time none of these players scored in two consecutive games, never mind three straight.

Needless to say, no matter who thinks they deserve to be chalk in the NHL odds, if the stars don’t show up for Toronto in Game 4, it’s game over.
Bobrovsky on the Case For Conn Smythe Trophy
Sergei Bobrovsky has recaptured the magic that led him to win the Vezina Trophy while playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013 and 2017. He’s allowed just two goals in each of the three games of the series, making 91 saves on 97 shots.
Sergei Bobrovsky 2023 Playoff Stats
Opponent | Record | SV% | GAA | GSVA |
---|---|---|---|---|
Toronto Maple Leafs | 3-0 | .938 | 1.97 | 6.2 |
Boston Bruins | 3-1 | .891 | 3.94 | -0.2 |
While the Russian netminder stole Game 2 for the Panthers, he was just solid enough to win Game 3 as the Panthers as a team proved to be the better squad at home.
Without a point from their two best forwards, Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov, the Panthers still came up with the big plays and goals to defeat Toronto 3-2 in overtime. At this point, it appears the Cats are hungrier and just want it more.
Maple Leafs vs Panthers Prediction
To further compound difficulties for the Leafs, it appears as if they will be without their number one goalie, Ilya Samsonov for Game 4. Following a collision with Luke Schenn, he left Game 3 and was not on the ice at Leafs’ practice on Tuesday.

At this point, change might actually be exactly what the Leafs need. Losing this series looks imminent and going down to the number eight seed is bad enough, but getting swept? You have to think the winds of change will blow through the Big Smoke if they go down in four straight.
Given their performance, it’s understandable that it would be difficult to wager on them. However, our prediction is to take the Maple Leafs on the moneyline. They haven’t been swept in a best-of-7 since the Canadiens dominated them in the 2nd round in 1979, en route to their fourth straight cup. That was over 40 years ago.
These Panthers aren’t that dynast team. While they’re down 3-0, every game has been really close and Toronto owns a 3-1 road record in this season’s playoffs while Florida is 2-2 at home. Our pick is to take the Leafs in the Wednesday NHL odds. If they have any dignity, they will put their best foot forward and claim at least one win.
Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs Moneyline (-122)
