Panthers Favored in Game 5 Odds

After taking Game 4 in overtime, the Florida Panthers are favored in the NHL playoff odds tonight. Paul Maurice’s club has been instilled as -120 favorites for Game 5, which is reflected in their implied win probability. The Rangers come back as underdogs, which is an implied win probability.

It’s no surprise oddsmakers favor the Cats in this game, as they’ve been the superior team in the series. At five-on-five, Florida has a 61.15 CF% compared to New York’s 38.85 CF%. Furthermore, Florida has generated 60% of the expected goals at even strength.

So, you may be wondering how this series is tied based on Florida’s possession dominance. Well, the main reason is the play of Igor Shesterkin, who has an impressive .925 save percentage and 2.58 GAA in the postseason. He’s outdueled Sergei Bobrovsky, who has been inconsistent with a .904 sv% and 2.29 GAA through three rounds.

Thursday’s game is being played in Sunrise at Madison Square Garden, which has been factored into the NHL odds for Thursday. New York went 35-13-0 at home during the regular season, although they are just 5-2 at MSG in the playoffs, with two of those victories coming in extra time.

Oddsmakers still view New York’s home-ice advantage in the Big Apple as significant, as Florida was a heavy -160 favorite in their own building last game. The Cats, who went 31-12-5 on the road this season, are much longer -120 favorites for Game 5 in New York.

Rangers vs Panthers Game 5 Prediction

We’ve seen three straight overtime games in this series, so if you think the trend continues, you can bet on an extra session transpiring at +265 odds on DraftKings. However, we’re backing the road team to get the job done and take a 3-2 series lead.

Florida shut out the Rangers at MSG in Game 1 and earned at least a point in both regular-season meetings played in Manhatten. The Cats have yet to lose in regulation at MSG This year and clearly won’t be intimidated by Thursday’s hostile environment.

Florida’s power play has also come alive, notching five goals with the extra man in the past three games. Shesterkin can only do so much even if he’s proving to be the superior goalie in this series. The Rangers’ power play, meanwhile, has only struck once as key players Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider have yet to make an impact in the series.

The Panthers are 24-6 in their last 30 games as a favorite of -110 to -150, indicating they are typically worth the juice when Vegas pegs them as the favorite. Given Florida’s 77-46 shot edge over the past two games, we simply can’t bet against them in this pivotal Game 5.

Game 5 Pick:

  • Panthers ML (-120)

FLA-NYR Player Props

The Panthers vs Rangers props for tonight’s game show Sam Reinhart with the best odds to find twine at +135. Oddsmakers are clearly expecting a lower-scoring affair, as they aren’t listing any odds-on favorites to score. Artemi Panarin has the best odds of any Ranger at +145.

Player Anytime Goalscorer Shots on Goal (O/U) Points (O/U)
Sam Reinhart +135 3.5 (+120o/-150u) 0.5 (-175o/+135u)
Artemi Panarin +145 2.5 (-175o/+135u) 1.5 (+180o/-238u)
Carter Verhaeghe +155 3.5 (+110o/-140u) 0.5 (-175o/+135u)
Matthew Tkachuk +175 3.5 (+120o/-150u) 0.5 (-180o/+140u)
Chris Kreider +185 2.5 (+100o/-130u) 0.5 (-125o/-105u)
Vincent Trocheck +195 2.5 (-150o/+120u) 0.5 (-175o/+135u)
Aleksander Barkov +220 2.5 (-115o/-115u) 0.5 (-180o/+140u)
Alexis Lafreniere +235 2.5 (-110o/-120u) 0.5 (-110o/-120u)
Mika Zibanejad +240 2.5 (-110o/-120u) 0.5 (-180o/+140u)
Sam Bennett +310 2.5 (+124o/-160u) 0.5 (+130o/-166u)

When it comes to our NHL player prop bet recommendations for Thursday night we’re looking at Alexsander Barkov to pick up an assist (-110) at DraftKings. The 28-year-old Finnish center has dished out three helpers in the past two games while averaging over 22 minutes of ice time.

Barkov’s line with Sam Reinhart has been Florida’s best this postseason, as they generate 59% of the expected goals when they are together. Barkov has been a streaky scorer this postseason, and if this recent two-game heater is reminiscent of the past, the Finn should continue to stay hot in Game 5.

  • Prop Bet: Sasha Barkov Assist (-110)
