My prediction is the surging Hurricanes take care of business at home against a fatigued Capitals squad. Carolina has rattled off wins in 11 of their last 13 contests and are an impressive 29-8-1 on home ice this season. The Canes have also had Washington’s number recently, claiming 7 of the past 10 head-to-head matchups.

In net, Frederik Andersen is confirmed to start for Rod Brind’Amour’s club. The Danish netminder has been locked in, winning six straight starts while posting a minuscule 1.60 GAA and stellar .936 save percentage over that span. He hasn’t allowed more than two goals in any of those outings.

Washington will likely counter with Logan Thompson, who is coming off a disastrous start against Buffalo where he surrendered 7 goals on just 22 shots. The Capitals’ structure has slipped a bit defensively of late and they could be a step slow in this spot after playing yesterday.

Carolina also holds a special teams edge in this one. Their penalty kill ranks 2nd in the NHL at 84.7% while taking the 8th-fewest penalties per game. The Canes are adept at limiting opposing shots and chances with their stingy defensive system.

A regulation win would also clinch a playoff berth for the Hurricanes, so they’ll be hungry to seal the deal in front of their home fans. At -103 odds, the 3-Way moneyline presents solid value based on Carolina’s projected edge in this Metropolitan matchup.

The most favorable line we can find for the Hurricanes 3-Way ML is -103 at Caesars. Carolina is laying -220 juice on the regular moneyline and -1.5 (+118) on the puck line.

Washington meanwhile, comes back as +180 moneyline underdogs.

Switching over to the player props market, where I’m targeting Logan Stankoven to register over 1.5 shots on goal. The rookie winger has been impressive in a middle-six role for Carolina, notching 14 goals in 57 games. Stankoven is averaging over two shots per contest and has cleared this line in 9 of his last 10 outings.

I also like Sebastian Aho to light the lamp as an anytime goalscorer bet at +143 odds. The Hurricanes’ star center leads the team with 28 tallies on the year and is heating up with 5 goals in his last 8 games. Aho has torched the Caps for 15 goals in 29 career meetings, including scoring in both matchups this season.

Capitals vs Hurricanes props:

  • Sebastian Aho Anytime Goal (+143) at FanDuel
