A Pacific Division clash sees the Vancouver Canucks (26-20-11) take on the Los Angeles Kings (31-17-7) at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The puck drops at 10:00 PM Eastern Time, with national coverage on TNT.

The Kings enter as -178 home favorites on the moneyline, while the total is set at a tight-checking 5.5 goals. Will L.A. continue their home dominance and stifle the slumping Canucks?

Here’s our Canucks vs Kings prediction for Wednesday Night Hockey.

Canucks vs Kings Prediction

I’m backing the Kings -125 in regulation in a low-scoring defensive battle. Los Angeles has been elite on home ice this season, posting a stellar 19-3-2 record at Crypto.com Arena. They allow the 4th-fewest goals per game (2.53) thanks to their stifling team defense and outstanding goaltending from Darcy Kuemper.

The Canucks, meanwhile, rank 26th in goals scored per game (2.74) and have struggled mightily to generate offense recently, tallying two goals or less in four straight contests. With leading scorer Quinn Hughes currently injured and star center Elias Pettersson mired in a slump, breaking through against the Kings’ airtight defensive structure will be a tall task.

The absence of Hughes cannot be overstated for Vancouver. The dynamic defenseman leads the team with 59 points and quarterbacks their power play. Without his offensive creativity and puck-moving abilities, the Canucks become far easier to contain in transition. Hughes is a game-time decision tonight, but even if he returns, it’ll take a game or two for him to get back up to speed.

On the other side, LA boasts impressive forward depth with seven players notching double-digit goal totals on the season. Wingers Adrian Kempe (25 goals) and Kevin Fiala (23 goals) lead the charge offensively. Their contributions, combined with the Kings’ commitment to defensive structure, make L.A. extremely tough to pick against at home.

Los Angeles also has won five of their last six games overall and four straight against the Canucks at Crypto.com Arena. They’ve outscored opponents 10-5 over their last two victories. That defensive dominance, coupled with Vancouver’s road woes (the Canucks are 2-6 SU in their last 8 against L.A.), points to a Kings win in regulation.

In the crease, Kuemper (2.21 GAA, .918 SV%) should outduel Kevin Lankinen and spearhead another stellar defensive effort from the Kings. Bet the Kings at -125 on the regulation line at Caesars. Everything sets up perfectly for Los Angeles to suffocate Vancouver and improve upon their elite 19-3-2 record at Crypto.com Arena.

Canucks vs Kings Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
VAN Canucks +1.5 (-170) +150 Over 5.5 (+118)
LA Kings -1.5 (+143) -178 Under 5.5 (-140)

The Kings sit as -178 home favorites on the moneyline, meaning a $178 bet would net you $100 in profit if L.A. wins. The Canucks are +150 underdogs, offering a potential $150 return on a $100 wager.

L.A. is +143 to cover the -1.5 puck line, so they need to prevail by two or more goals for that bet to cash. Meanwhile, Vancouver is -170 to stay within 1.5 goals – a $170 bet would win you $100 if the Canucks either win outright or lose by a single tally.

The Kings’ puck line price offers solid value, considering they’ve won their last two contests by multiple goals. Keep in mind, though, that the low total implies not many goals will be scored. It’s a riskier play than taking the Kings on the 60-minute line, but it provides a larger potential payout.

The total is perched at just 5.5 goals, with the over at +118 and the under priced at -140. This aligns with our expectation of a tight-checking, defensively driven contest.
