The feel-good portion of November was short-lived for the Calgary Flames.
Calgary entered the month with wins in five of their last seven October games. But after dropping their last game of the month 3-2 to the Oilers, the Flames have gone 2-5-2 this month. That includes Thursday night’s loss in Tampa.
Then you can mix in the fact that Saturday will be the first time they face Matthew Tkachuk since a messy divorce in the summer. After watching both Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau bolt Calgary, the Flames have had to reshape themselves on the fly.
Calgary wraps up their Florida swing against the Panthers on Saturday at 4:00 pm ET from FLA Live Arena.

It’s not surprising to see the Panthers open up as home favorites, especially considering the Flames’ struggles. When it comes to the total, Florida is a team to keep an eye on. Six of their eight games this month have seen at least six combined goals.

Prior to their recent swoon, the Flames sat second in the Stanley Cup odds. But the losses have hurt. In terms of scoring, four of their last five games have seen the total finish under five. Three of their first four games this month saw at least seven goals scored, however, so the potential is there.
Calgary Flames Betting Trends
The Flames are kicking off a lengthy seven game road trip with their stops in Florida. Before that they were able to knock off the Jets and Kings at home.
Amazingly, Calgary has played just four road games this year, going 1-3-1. Even though it’s early, in a packed Pacific Division this is a crucial trip.

Calgary is still searching for their identity following that massive summer blockbuster.
Free agent import Nazem Kadri has come as-advertised, scoring seven goals and notching 14 points in his first 15 games. Tyler Toffoli, Elias Lindholm and Rasmus Andersson have all been pulling their weight as well, but after that there’s a bit of a fall off.
Then, of course, there’s Jonathan Huberdeau. Coming over in the Matthew Tkachuk trade, the two-time 30 goal scorer took six games to score his first with Calgary. It took him another six to score his second (plus a three game absence), so hopefully he’ll turn the corner soon.
Florida Panthers Betting Trends
So how has the transition to Florida been for Tkachuk following his first 100-point season?
Not bad.
While he’s only managed six goals through his first 15 games, Tkachuk has mixed in 16 assists. Those numbers put him on pace to eclipse the 100-point mark once again, even factoring in his two-game suspension.

Saturday’s game wraps up a five-game run at home for the Panthers.
Thursday’s loss was just the second in regulation for the Panthers at home, dropping them to 5-2-1. The first loss also came on this length stretch at home when they were downed by the Oilers.
Flames vs Panthers Pick
Since it’s a revenge game, it feels appropriate to back Tkachuk to score. If you can find a book to back the prop, you can likely grab it at a nice value.
Florida has been nearly unstoppable on home ice though, and Calgary has done nothing but struggle on the road. Until we see otherwise from either side, it’s best to back the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
The Pick: Florida Panthers (-130); 1 unit
