McDavid, Bobrovsky Favored in Conn Smythe Odds

There aren’t many surprises when it comes to the 2024 Conn Smythe odds. Edmonton Oilers phenom Connor McDavid, the consensus best hockey player in the world, is the betting favorite. Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and two-way center Aleksander Barkov have the second-best odds.

McDavid leads the NHL playoffs in scoring with 31 points, but he’s only found the back of the net five times. Of course, there’s plenty of time for him to light the lamp in the final, but there’s a reason he isn’t an odds-on favorite in this market. His teammate, Zach Hyman, has found twine a remarkable 14 times this postseason.

Bobrovsky is the co-leading favorite for Florida despite posting fairly mediocre numbers so far. “Bob” is 12-5-0 with a .908 save percentage and 2.20 GAA. His odds are priced this short likely due to the strong possibility of him stonewalling a very dangerous Edmonton offense. However, it’s worth noting that the Russian netminder has yet to put the team on his back at the level he did during last season’s run.

Panthers’ captain Sasha Barkov certainly isn’t as well-recognized as the opposing team’s captain, but he possesses a remarkable two-way skillset. Despite sitting just 8th in the NHL playoff scoring stats with 17 points entering the Cup Final, Barkov has the second-best odds to win the Conn Smythe. This is primarily due to his excellent two-way play and his potential to shut down McDavid in the final.

We can’t fault you for betting on Connor McDavid to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. If the Oilers win their first Stanley Cup since 1990, the Canadian phenom will certainly have played a huge role in it. McDavid’s potential to dominate on any given night makes him the safe bet in the Conn Smythe odds.

Our best value bet, however, is going to be Matthew Tkachuk, who is priced at +550 as of publishing. He leads the Panthers with 16 points (five goals) through 17 games and has a tendency to deliver in big moments.

Despite playing last year’s final with a broken sternum, Tkachuk still managed to score two goals against Vegas. “Chucky” has a proven track record against the Oilers, scoring 26 career points against them as a member of the Flames.

For an Oilers wager, it’s impossible not to love the value on Leon Draisaitl at +950. It’s easy to forget when Crosby won his first Cup, it was actually his running mate Evgeni Malkin who was awarded the Conn Smythe. Leon has five more goals than McDavid while trailing him by just three points.

If Draisaitl pots a few more clutch goals in the final, the lethal sniper could find himself as the first German-born Conn Smythe winner in NHL history.
