Week 4 of the NFL schedule brings an intriguing NFC match-up. On the slate for early Sunday afternoon, it’s the Seattle Seahawks vs Detroit Lions from Ford Field.

Detroit’s offseason appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks has made them a public darling. Yet, the Lions have reverted to old habits through three weeks of the NFL season and sit at just 1-2.

Meanwhile, Seattle has dropped two in a row. The Seahawks have looked lifeless the past two weeks after a season-opening revenge game victory over former quarterback Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos.

This one kickoffs from Ford Field in Detroit at 1pm ET over on FOX. Until then, take a peak at all the Seattle Seahawks vs Detroit Lions odds below.

Seattle Seahawks +4 (-110) +180 Over 48 (-110)
Detroit Lions -4 (-110) -222 Under 48 (-110)

After watching the Detroit Lions make a multitude of mistakes last week in Minnesota, Dan Campbell’s team is tough to trust as a favorite. Betting on Seattle as +4 underdogs against the spreads looks appealing at first glance.

However, the public is once again all over the Lions as 62% of spread bets are currently on Detroit to cover.

Seattle Seahawks Betting Trends

The Seahawks saw a 3-point halftime lead disappear last week at home versus the Falcons. Seattle managed to move the ball effectively for two quarters, but something changed after the half.

Atlanta managed to adjust and the Falcons did just enough to squeeze out the road victory. Then again, having Geno Smith drop back to pass 44 times is not a recipe for success in 2022.

That being said, the Seattle offense has actually been incredibly efficient so far this season. The hashtag #letgenocook was trending on Twitter for a reason. The Seahawks put up 420 yards of total offense, for an impressive 6.2 yards per play in last week’s loss.

Seattle should have similar success against a porous Lions defense on Sunday. However, it’s the other side of the football that may decide the outcome of this game.

While the offense has surprisingly been the saving grace for Seattle thus far, the defense has been awful. Once the bread and butter of the famed “Legion of Boom”, Seattle’s defense has surrendered nearly 400 yards per game so far.

Even more worrisome, the Seahawks’ rush defense ranks next to last in the league, as Seattle has given up 157 rushing yards per game. This unit will struggle against an explosive Lions offense on Sunday.

Detroit Lions Betting Trends

Head coach Dan Campbell has to be ruing all the mistakes made by his football team in last week’s loss to Minnesota. Kicker Austin Seibert pushed a 54-yard field goal wide right with 1:10 remaining, leaving Minnesota more than enough time to score the game winning touchdown.

Despite that, all is not lost in Detroit. Quite the opposite actually, as the Lions’ offense has been one of the most explosive unit in the entire league this season. Detroit ranks third in total offensive yards and rushing yards while putting up 409, and 170.3 respectively per game.

Astonishingly, the Lions currently rank second in the NFL in points per game at 31.7. Quarterback Jared Goff has looked much more comfortable this season, while playing behind a stout offensive line.

Unfortunately for Detroit, at one point this week the Lions were practicing without 10 starters. Offensive starters Amon-Ra St. Brown, D’Andre Swift, Josh Reynolds, T.J. Hockenson, Jonah Jackson, and Frank Ragnow all missed time this week.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s defense has been a sieve so far this season. The Lions are conceding an awful 5.8 yards per play through three games.

Seahawks vs Lions Pick

Unfortunately for Detroit, head coach Dan Campbell announced on Friday that wide receiver St. Brown and running back Swift are likely to miss this contest due to injury.

Ultimately, that may be too much to overcome for this squad. The Lions under Campbell have been known to slip in late fourth quarter scores to cover the spread. However, with them being a decent sized favorite for once, the Lions could be susceptible to the backdoor cover here.

Interestingly, the Seahawks are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games in week 4. We’ll side with the better coach here, take the points.

Pick: Seattle +4 (-110)
