NFL Spread Public Betting Trends Favor Packers

This game being held at a neutral site heavily favors the underdog Packers. It’s interesting that most of the money has followed the Eagles, given that Jalen Hurts has struggled away from home during his career. In fact, Hurts is just 6-14-1 ATS as a favorite away from home, the fourth-least profitable quarterback in that scenario across the last 20 NFL seasons.

On the flip side, Packers head coach Matt Lafleur has been phenomenal ATS as an underdog. Lafleur has gone an outrageous 22-10 ATS as a ‘dog in his career in Green Bay, and is a unreal 13-2 ATS through the first three weeks of the season.

The Packers also have the advantage of debuting Jeff Hafley’s brand-new defense in Sao Paolo. Hafley spent the last four years in the college football ranks, and showed very little of his hand in the preseason. Green Bay now deploys a single-high safety defense, which has been Hurts’ kryptonite throughout his career.

Packers vs Eagles Total Trends

Both the Packers and Eagles possess the offensive talent necessary to turn Friday night’s contest into a shootout. So far, bettors are making the contrarian play as over 77% of wagers have come in on the under 49.5 points.

The Packers vs Eagles total opened at 48.5, before increasing by a point in the lead-up to Sao Paolo’s showdown. Bettors are jumping on the betting trends as the under has hit in five of the last six Packers contests when playing on the road against Philadelphia.

Perhaps bettors are simply backing the NFL’s most profitable over under trend. Primetime unders are an outrageous 70-43-1 over the past three seasons, including last night. Primetime contests finished an unbelievable 35-23 to the under during the 2023 NFL season. However, the Packers finished 10-7 to the over in regular season games last year, and 5-3 away from home. While the Eagles went 8-7 as the favorite.

Packers vs Eagles NFL Moneyline Handle An Even Split

As our Packers vs Eagles public betting table displays, 72% of moneyline wagers are on the Eagles at -126 to win this contest. But, only 54% of the moneyline handle is on the Eagles. That’s a surefire sign that sharp money is backing the underdog Packers.

Lafleur’s record as an underdog is likely the cause of that. Additionally, Philadelphia will be deploying new schemes on both sides of the football, as Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio take over as coordinators. Jalen Hurts has publicly admitted that his offensive calls are “95%” new, and Fangio’s defense is notoriously complex.

Additionally, with starting cornerback Isaiah Rodgers ruled out of Friday’s game, Philly will be starting some combination of young, inexperienced cornerbacks across for Darius Slay. Growing pains for the Eagles are inevitable, especially in the early days of the NFL schedule.

On top of that, the Packers have upgraded their offensive line, employ four talented wide receivers, and Jordan Love has thrown for 26 touchdowns and just five interceptions across his past 12 starts.
