There’s been a lot of areas in the NFL odds this season in which the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming up short.
Covering at home is one of them in the case of the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay is 0-4 against the spread at home. Yet it’s the Buccaneers who are set as 3-point home favorites over the visiting Rams. LA is 1-1 as an away underdog in this Week 9 clash of the last two Super Bowl-winning teams.
Speaking of the big game the Buffalo Bills, the chalk in the Super Bowl odds, are going to Met Life Stadium to face the New York Jets as 11.5-point road favorites. It’s the fourth time in seven games that the 6-1 Bills are a double-digit favorite, but the first time it’s happened on the road. Buffalo is 2-1 ATS as a 10+ point chalk in 2022.
In the NFL odds, the Atlanta Falcons have dropped two in a row ATS for the first time this season. On the other hand, the Carolina Panthers have covered two games in a row for the first time in 2022.
Before diving deeper into this week’s line movement, let’s look at the up-to-date Week 9 NFL odds.

NFL Week 9 Biggest Line Movement
The Panthers have covered the past two weeks. Carolina beat Tampa Bay 21-3 last 13-point underdogs. The Panthers lost 37-34 to Atlanta as 4-point underdogs.
Prior to those games, Carolina was 1-12 ATS in the previous 13 games. Evidently, though, bettors are now buying into Carolina futures.

Reigning AFC champion Cincinnati opened as the 8.5-point chalk at home over Carolina. That line has since shortened to Bengals -7. It could be because the Panthers are playing better football. More than likely, it has to do with 4-4 Cincinnati being on a short week and looking dismal minus Ja’Marr Chase in a 32-13 MNF loss to Cleveland.
In the NFL public betting trends. bettors are backing the Panthers in the spread handle at a rate of 64%.
Biggest Total Movement In Week 9 NFL Lines
It’s a sign of the times in terms of NFL scoring that not only were there four games deadlocked for the biggest Week 9 line movement showing up in the totals at NFL betting sites, but each of those four games were displaying a shortening in the number being offered on the game.
The Bills vs Jets (47.5 points to 46), the Panthers vs Bengals (44 to 42.5), Raiders vs Jaguars (48 to 46.5) and Chiefs vs Titans (46.5 to 45) all saw their totals shorten by 1.5 points.

Of the 32 NFL teams, 18 have gone under more often than over in their games this season. Another five teams are .500 on the total.
The 45-point total is the smallest on a Chiefs game this season. The last time Kansas City as showing a lower total in a home game was last December 26, when the over/under between KC and Pittsburgh was set at 44.5 points. The Chiefs went over in a 36-10 victory.
Bettors Losing Faith In Jaguars and Raiders
A once-promising start to the season for the Jacksonville Jaguars has gone up in flames. The Jaguars are 0-5 both straight up and against the spread over their past five games. They’ve failed to cover at home, on the road, and in Merry Old England.
I wholeheartedly believe the Raiders are still worse than the Jags but I’m sure the Jaguars will prove me wrong soon 😂😂

Just when people were staring to buy into what the Las Vegas Raiders were selling, they took a major pratfall in Week 8. New Orleans blanked the Raiders 24-0. In the three games prior to that, Las Vegas was 3-0 ATS.
As these two clubs clash, it’s the Raiders who are 1.5-point road favorites in the shortest spread of Week 9. Las Vegas is 1-3 ATS on the road this season. Jacksonville is 1-3 ATS at home this season.
Longest Odds of Week 9
As big as that Bills vs Jets spread is, it didn’t earn the title as the largest point spread in the Week 9 NFL odds. That went to the Chiefs. They’re set as the 12.5-point home chalk against the Titans, which is somewhat surprising.
Chiefs QB Pat Mahomes is 1-2 as starter against the Tennessee Titans.
Titans are the only team in the regular season in Mahomes career as a starter with Chiefs to hold Kansas City to no touchdowns on offense and Mahomes to a subpar passer rating of 62.3 his second career worst. pic.twitter.com/jJabJpGVMa— 🏈TitansFanatic🏈 (@titanfan8) November 1, 2022
Tennessee is 2-1 SU and ATS in three games against Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes. In fact, the Titans are 5-1 ATS in the last six games facing the Chiefs.
It’s been so long since the Chiefs were double-digit favorites over the Titans, the franchise was still the Houston Oilers. That was on December 18, 1994. KC beat the Oilers 31-9 as the 10.5-point home chalk.
Patriots vs Colts Showing Lowest Week 9 Total
Imagine during the halcyon years of the Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning Patriots vs Colts rivalry for AFC supremacy seeing a total of 40.5 points on a game between these two teams? Well, that’s the over/under assigned to Sunday’s tilt between New England and Indianapolis and it’s the lowest of Week 9. Certainly, breaking news that Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is out didn’t help boost the total.

You’d need to go back to the pre-Brady vs Manning days to find a shorter total on a Patriots-Colts game. On November 1, 1998, the over/under set for a Patriots at Colts game was 38 points. And the game went under as New England were 21-16 winners.
It’s the Shortest Highest Total of the Season
Three games are sharing the nod as the highest total assigned to Week 9 games in the NFL odds. The Chargers vs Falcons, Seahawks vs Cardinals and Packers vs Lions are all sitting with over/unders of 49.5 points.

Lions IDL Isaiah Buggs is dead last in the NFL in Pass Rush Win Rate.
With the way this season has gone for GB – Buggs will have 3 sacks, a FF returned for a TD, and a tipped ball INT returned for a TD.

This is the first week of the 2022 NFL season in which no game’s total has reached 50 points.
