The Detroit Lions (13-2, 7-0 away) will be looking to avenge last season’s NFC Championship Game loss when they face the San Francisco 49ers (6-9, 4-4 home) on Monday Night Football. Detroit, the top seed in the NFC, is on track for another conference title game appearance, but the same cannot be said for San Fran. The Niners have been eliminated from postseason contention, and will be home ‘dogs for the first time all year when the Lions come to town per the latest football betting lines. Kickoff for this primetime clash is set for 8:15 pm ET from Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara, CA, with ABC and ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.
Detroit Lions vs San Francisco 49ers Odds
Teams | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Detroit Lions | -3.5 (-110) | -196 | O 50.5 (-110) |
San Francisco 49ers | +3.5 (-110) | +170 | U 50.5 (-110) |
Detroit is currently favored by 3.5 points, but that number might not last long. The Lions are currently drawing 90% of the spread bets and 94% of the handle according to the NFL public betting percentages. Total-wise, the over/under is down a point from its opener, and there may be more line movement to come. Under 50.5 is garnering 59% of the total wagers, and 63% of the money as of Sunday.Â

Road Warriors
Detroit hasn’t lost on the road since last season’s NFC Championship Game in San Francisco. The Lions coughed up a 17-point lead in that outing, blowing a chance to earn the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
There’s been no hangover for Detroit in 2024, as they’ve been at or near the top of the Super Bowl odds for the entire campaign. They’re the only undefeated team away from home, covering in six of seven outings. The Lions lead the league in point differential, and unlike most teams, haven’t missed a beat after a handful of devastating injuries.
Detroit’s lost eight starters on defense, including star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson. The offense hasn’t been hit quite so hard, but did lose one-half of their two-headed backfield monster when David Montgomery went down.
LEGEND: #Lions QB Jared Goff is the 1ST PLAYER IN #NFL HISTORY with 275+ passing yards, two TD passes & a passer rating of 135+ in 5 games within a single season in league history.

Montgomery’s absence was hardly noticeable last week, as the Lions put up 34 points in a rout of Chicago. Jared Goff threw for 336 yards and 3 TD, continuing his career-best season. Goff has set new career-highs in TD passes, yards per attempt and passer rating, and is in line for another big game on MNF. The 49ers defense is vulnerable, allowing 29+ points in three of its last five games.
The Niners Power Outage
Goff has nearly doubled Brock Purdy’s TD production this season. The ladder has taken a major step back from last season’s brilliant campaign, and a lot of his struggles can be attributed to a poor offensive line. San Fran is down multiple starters on the O-line including Trent Williams. The Niners are 1-4 without Williams, scoring 17 points or less in each defeat.
This might be the 49ers’ starting offensive line in front of Brock Purdy on Monday vs. the Lions 😬

Purdy’s numbers are down across the board. He has 14 fewer TD passes than last season, while averaging 1.3 yards less per attempt. Purdy has already taken more sacks than in 2023, and his passer rating is down 19 points. He led the league in expected points added last year, while this year he’s outside the top-seven. As a result, San Francisco ranks 14th in scoring offense, compared to third in 2023.
Lions vs 49ers Predictions
Betting against the Lions this season in general has been a costly decision. Fading them on the road or in primetime during the Dan Campbell era has been disastrous. Detroit is 9-2 outright and 8-3 against the spread under the lights with Campbell. Yes, the defense has been hit hard by injuries, but they’ll still be able to generate a ton of pressure versus San Fran’s makeshift line.
On the other side of the ball, this version of the Niners defense isn’t equipped to slow down Goff and Co. Even at full strength last year, Detroit hung 31 points on them, and they’ll approach that number again on Monday Night Football.
Betting on San Fran in this matchup is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. The market is going to move in the Lions direction soon, so lock in -3.5 now.
