  • We have Friday Night Lights “NFL Edition” when the Green Bay Packers take on the Philadelphia Eagles at 8:15 pm ET on Friday, September 6
  • This game is part of the NFL International Series and will be played at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil
  • The only thing left for us to do now is throw in a little Packers vs Eagles SGP to make things more interesting

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers (9-8, 9-8 ATS last season) are heading to San Paulo, Brazil, to take on Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles (11-6, 7-8-2 ATS). This game will be shown on Peacock so if you don’t have that app already, get the situation figured out before Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 pm ET so you have until then. This game will be played inside so we won’t concern ourselves with any weather issues.

One of my favorite ways to attack these standalone NFL games is with the same-game parlay (SGP). There’s something about having 3+ legs of a parlay going at the same time in the same game. It’s magic. What’s even better is, since it’s the same game, we can make sure each leg is correlated. That way, we have the whole thing working for us at all times.

From a game perspective, the Eagles are  3-point favorites while the total is resting at 48.5, but things could always move between now and Friday night. As always, there are literally hundreds props to consider when crafting this SGP but I’ve only got eyes for three.

Everything Starts with Jordan Love

One of my favorite strategies for an NFL SGP is to look into the quarterback of the team that is getting points. It makes sense because the underdog is expected to lose the game which means we are likely to get a favorable game-script. Obviously, this strategy doesn’t always work since we don’t want to back a bad quarterback. But in some cases, the reality of the situation is, even good quarterbacks can be underdogs.

Lucky for us, this is the exact situation we are looking at Friday night.

Jordan Love is an absolute dawg. We saw it in the second half of last season and in the playoffs. From Week 7 until Week 17 last season, he only went under 225 passing yards twice. He finished with 218 yards in one of those games and 219 in the other. The guy was right there, so we’re good on a talent front.

Talent isn’t the only thing we look for on the SGP streets though. We also need the right opponent and I’m pretty sure we have that with the Philadelphia Eagles. For starters, they have a good offense so they should force the Packers to hang points to win. No sitting on the ball. On top of that, they’re good against the run. Only eight teams in the entire NFL allowed fewer rushing yards to opponents last season. Will they be good at stopping the run this year? Who knows? Going through their roster, my guess is they could be even better against the run.

Being great against the run creates a “pass funnel” which is exactly what happened last season. Only four teams in the NFL allowed more passing yards to quarterbacks. It makes sense though. If teams can’t run the ball, they simply throw it. They have to move the ball somehow. Now the Eagles drafted a couple of cornerbacks to right the ship but it could take time before their secondary issues are resolved. Any way we look at it, between game-script and opponent, Jordan Love should be able to throw for at least 225 yards Friday Night.

Christian Watson Works for the People

Now that we have our quarterback, it’s time to find a receiver. After all, if the quarterback is racking up passing yards, then somebody has to be raking in some receiving yards. That’s just how this sport called football works. The biggest issue we have in this game is, the Packers’ receiving room is full of talent. It’s tough to just point to one guy and say “he’s the one.”

But after thinking long and hard, turning over every stone, doing thousands of mental simulations, I think it’s safe to say Christian Watson is the obvious candidate to take us to the promised land.

Here’s the thing with Watson, he’s been hurt for years. His hamstrings just haven’t held up but from the reports I’ve seen, he’s got it all figured out. He cracked the gimpy hamstring code. I for one and happy he did. I’ve always been a fan.

What all that means for us is, we can expect a healthy Christian Watson on Friday night. What’s even better is, we don’t need him to be Superman out there. This SGP is as watered-down as it can get. Just three receptions for at least 40 yards. Between the favorable game-script we talked about with Love, and the new, improved status of his hamstrings, this should be an easy cash.
