Matt McEwan went 5-4 on his anytime TD bets in Week 1, winning 1.06 units from half-unit bets. See who he's betting in Week 2 here!
  • Touchdown scorer props have remained the most popular NFL prop to start the season, per the online sportsbooks
  • Touchdown scorer odds are available at all major sportsbooks for every Week 2 game
  • See the eight players I am betting to score a touchdown in Week 2

Every sportsbook that I have spoken to since the start of the NFL season has reported that NFL touchdown scorer props have continued to be their most popular NFL prop. Sadly, we did not see anyone other than DraftKings offer both sides of the prop last week, and that’s unlikely to change for Week 2.

However, I feel I was able to find some good value on NFL TD props last week, going 5-4 on my picks to win 1.06 units off the half-unit bets, and feel just as confident in the NFL touchdown scorer picks I’m playing for Week 2 of the 2024-25 NFL season.

Best NFL TD Scorer Picks for Week 2

Player Anytime TD Odds
James Cook +175 (FanDuel)
Jonathan Taylor +110 (DraftKings)
Adonai Mitchell +350 (DraftKings)
Taysom Hill +250 (BetMGM)
JK Dobbins +160 (FanDuel)
Garrett Wilson +185 (FanDuel)
Jerome Ford +160 (Caesars)
Jayden Daniels +130 (BetMGM)

I have eight players above that I am betting to score an anytime TD in Week 2, and am putting a half-unit on each again. Though, I may add one more play for tonight (Bills vs Dolphins). I want to play a Dolphin, probably one of their RBs, but want to wait and see De’Von Achane’s status. If he plays, I probably bet him. I don’t foresee his odds getting any shorter than they already are. But if he’s out, I will likely jump on Jaylen Wright.

Be sure to check back in over the weekend as well, as I may add in some extra plays closer to kickoff.

Here is why I like each of the players above to score a touchdown in Week 2:

James Cook

In Week 1, James Cook saw 19 of Buffalo’s 25 running back carries. The Bills clearly like Cook and have plenty of trust in him having fixed his fumbling issues from last season. Cook was held out of the endzone last week, though, as Josh Allen scored both of the teams rushing touchdowns.

Thanks to Allen keeping the ball to himself in the red zone, we’re getting some great odds (+175) on James Cook to find the endzone on Thursday Night Football against the Dolphins. Miami gave up 128 rushing yards to the Jaguars last week, and an average of 4.9 yards per carry. We also saw Jags RB Travis Etienne score from the 1-yard-line.

I like the Bills to take a slightly more cautious approach with Allen in the red zone this week, after he banged up his left hand a little as he dove into the endzone last week.

  • Pick: James Cook Anytime TD (+175 at FanDuel)

Jonathan Taylor

After cashing a Jonathan Taylor anytime TD at plus-money last week, I thought I would never see this type of pricing again. But I guess sportsbooks aren’t looking into Taylor’s 16 carries for 48 yards (and a touchdown) from last week too deeply.

The three yards per carry wasn’t great, but that also came against a Houston defense that ranked second in YPC allowed last season. Also, based off the big-plays Anthony Richardson managed through the air, I would bet Demeco Ryans schemed to stop the run.

Jonathan Taylor celebrating with fans after scoring a touchdown
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (28) celebrates as he runs in for a touchdown Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, during a game against the Houston Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

What I found really encouraging from the game was that Taylor still saw 16 carries in spite of Indianapolis only possessing the ball for 20 minutes and playing from behind the majority of the game.

The Packers defense Taylor will see on Sunday gave up 109 rushing yards to Saquon Barkley on 24 carries. Thanks to Shane Steichen, who used to be Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator, and a very good offensive line, I think Taylor will be put in even better positions than we saw Barkley thrive in last week.

Also, I don’t see how Jordan Love could possibly play this week, and if he does not, I don’t see the Packers offense being able to move the ball well. The result will be Indianapolis playing with a positive game script for much of the game and Taylor seeing the endzone at least once.

  • Pick: Jonathan Taylor Anytime TD (+110 at DraftKings)

Adonai Mitchell

You typically won’t see me take two players from the same team to score a touchdown. But I simply cannot pass up Adonai Mitchell at +350 odds.

If you’re just looking at box scores, you’ll see that the rookie only managed one reception for two yards in his NFL debut. However, if you watched the game, you not only know he saw five targets, but he was also inches away from having 100+ yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Richardson narrowly missed him on what would have been two explosive plays – one of them drew a defensive pass interference and was the reason he was slightly overthrown.

I appreciate that Josh Downs may be back in the lineup for the Colts on Sunday, and would understand if you wanted to wait to make this bet, but I’m locking it in now. I can’t see Shane Steichen leaving a player with this much juice on the sidelines for too many plays.

  • Pick: Adonai Mitchell Anytime TD (+350 at DraftKings)

Taysom Hill

We saw five different New Orleans Saints score a touchdown last week, none of which were Taysom Hill. Although, Hill did handle five carries, which he turned into 35 yards, and saw two targets as well. What I find even more encouraging, is that many of those looks came in either short yardage situations or the red zone.

We had heard Dennis Allen talk about Hill maintaining a significant role in the offense all offseason. I feel Week 1 proved he was telling the truth.

Now the Saints will take on the Cowboys, and I do not suspect they’ll score another five touchdowns. I like Hill to see an even bigger role in the offense, though, in what I suspect will be a more run-heavy Saints gameplan. Not only will they want to neutralize Micah Parsons coming off the edge, but probably keep the Cowboys offense on the sideline for prolonged periods.

While the Browns are likely eager to forget about their offensive performance against the Cowboys last week, they did at least have some success running the ball. Dallas gave up 93 yards on 19 carries with 39 of those coming from the QB.

When the Saints enter the red zone on Sunday, I like them to avoid putting the ball in the air and instead leaning on Hill’s toughness.

JK Dobbins

We weren’t sure which Chargers running back would serve as the lead back in Jim Harbaugh’s new-look, run-heavy offense. But Week 1 showed us it’s probably going to be a committee approach. Though the hot hand belonged to JK Dobbins, who ran for 135 yards on ten carries, we actually saw Gus Edwards get one more carry (11) than him. In spite of Dobbins looking so good, I don’t think we’re going to see him handed the backfield in Week 2.

So, don’t go thinking this is a bet made because I’m bullish on Dobbins being the lead back. It’s a bet made because they’re playing the Carolina Panthers, who allowed the Saints to rush for 180 yards on 37 rushing attempts (4.9 YPC) last week. But I will say I’m shocked Edwards only pays out 25 cents more per dollar at +185 odds after he was so ineffective with his touches last week.

At the very least, I suspect Dobbins to get his fair share of the touches, and that slice of the pie will come with another rushing touchdown.

  • Pick: JK Dobbins Anytime TD (+160 at FanDuel)

Garrett Wilson

Though Garrett Wilson let us down last week, I’m giving him another shot in Week 2, because the usage stats were there. Aaron Rodgers targeted Wilson on nine of his 21 pass attempts, and the WR saw another two targets from Tyrod Taylor when he took over in garbage time.

It was Allen Lazard who was able to take advantage of his targets and found the endzone twice. But that won’t be the case every week.

In a Week 2 matchup against the Titans, who appeared to do a pretty good job against the Bears wide receivers last week (or maybe just overwhelmed a rookie QB), I think we see Rodgers lean on Wilson again, and for the third-year pro to manage much more than 60 yards. Even if the Jets find themselves in a positive game script, I don’t think they’ll take their foot off the gas too quickly after getting beat pretty good by the 49ers last week.

  • Pick: Garrett Wilson Anytime TD (+185 at FanDuel)

Jerome Ford

Most people thought Jerome Ford was going to be the guy in Cleveland’s backfield while Nick Chubb remains sidelined, and last week proved that to be true. Ford handled 12 of the 14 RB carries and also saw seven targets, which were third-most on the team.

After Kevin Stefanski got his latest reminder that Deshaun Watson is not playing like a starting NFL QB, I think we see the Browns HC lean on the ground game more and find creative ways to get the ball out of Watson’s hands as quickly as possible. Plus, I don’t suspect the Jaguars will be able to put Cleveland in such a negative gamescript the way Dallas did last week.

I like Ford to handle close to 25 touches on Sunday and at +160 odds, love him to find the endzone.

  • Pick: Jerome Ford Anytime TD (+160 at Caesars)

Jayden Daniels

I do not understand these odds. I thought we were setting up for Jayden Daniels to be even-money or shorter to score a touchdown this week. The rookie scored two touchdowns last week against a Bucs defense that ranked 7th in points allowed and 8th in yards per carry last season. He also carried the ball 16(!) times, which was more than half of the team’s rushing attempts.

Now Daniels gets a Giants team who just gave up 21 points in the first 33 mins of their game against the Sam Darnold-led Vikings, before Minnesota took their foot off the gas because they were up so big.

The one bright spot of the Giants’ defense, in my opinion, is that they should have a pretty good pass-rush. Do you know what a good pass-rush is going to force Jayden Daniels to do? Tuck and run! I love a Daniels anytime TD at +130 odds.
