The Ohio State Buckeyes can’t think of San Diego State as an easy team just because they are 0-1 entering the season; they can be dangerous. The Buckeyes and the Aztecs clash on Saturday at 3:30 PM ET at Ohio Stadium.
“I coached against Rocky Long before,” Meyer said Monday about the Aztecs coach. “He’s an excellent football coach, tough, and his guys play real hard. They won nine games last year, which is not surprising for his teams.”
San Diego State lost 40-19 to Eastern Illinois in week one, and now they have to face Ohio State and Oregon State in back to back weeks.
“That’s as bad a performance as I’ve ever been around, and obviously I’m responsible, so that’s my fault. It was a horrible, horrible job of coaching”, head coach Rocky Long said.
For Ohio State it all ends and begins with quarterback Braxton Miller; he threw for 178 yards, 2 TDs and one interception in the 40-20 win against Buffalo. He added 77 rushing yards.
“I preached all week about coming out fast and playing hard, and they did it. Two quick scores, the first quarter (went by the) script. You can’t play much better than our guys did,” Meyer said. “And then we rough a punter, and we have a fourth down (play) we don’t make and then we throw a screen, and it goes the other way. In a tight game, you’re going to lose.”
Both teams are 0-1 against the spread. Ohio State is 3-0 ATS in the three times they faced San Diego State, but they haven’t met since 2005.
The betting odds have the Buckeyes as 27.5 points favorites for the game on Saturday.
