Golden State Warriors vs Sacramento Kings Predictions

  • Over 237 (-112) at Caesars

Tonight will mark the third meeting between these two teams this season. Sacramento has taken the first two, but both sides look very different after their respective trade deadline moves.

The Warriors made a huge splash bringing in Jimmy Butler. They’re 3-1 with him in the lineup, and now resemble a legitimate NBA Championship odds longshot contender. Butler is averaging 21 points per game since joining the Warriors, but his impact has also been felt at the defensive end.

Golden State has allowed 107.8 points per game since his arrival, 4 points less than their season long mark. They rank fifth in defensive rating during that stretch, and 11th in offensive rating. Butler and Steph Curry have averaged 52.3 points together per outing, and are now set to face a porous Sacramento defense.

The Kings have coughed up over 120 points per game in their last five contests. They rank 21st in defensive rating on the season, and 24th in opponent effective field goal percentage.

Sacramento has been able to stay competitive thanks to their offense, despite losing star guard De’Aaron Fox. They shipped off Fox to San Antonio, but brought in Zach LaVine. He’s been reunited with former teammate DeMar DeRozan, and the duo along with Domantas Sabonis and Malik Monk are combining for 80 points per contest over their last six.

The ceiling for the Kings guards isn’t sky high tonight, but if there’s a weakness on the Warriors it’s inside. Golden State lacks the size to slow down Sabonis. He’s averaging 24 points, 16 boards and 6 assists versus the Warriors this season, shooting 72% from the field.

With both teams boasting matchup advantages on offense, this game should lean high-scoring. That’s been the trend in Sacramento games lately, with six of their past eight outings exceeding the total.

Another reason to be bullish on the over is the pace at which both teams play at. The Warriors and Kings are each top-12 in possessions per game, with Sacramento ranking fifth. The Kings have been playing even faster since Fox left, averaging five more possessions per game.

Pick: Domantas Sabonis Over 17.5 Points (-105)

Switching over to the player props market, where we’re targeting over 17.5 points for Sabonis for the reasons laid out above. Yes, LaVine eats up more shot attempts than Fox, but Sabonis is still averaging over 14 attempts in his last four starts.

He’s got a major mismatch over the Golden State defenders, and the heightened pace of the game should naturally lend itself to more opportunities to score for everyone. Expect Sabonis to take advantage.
