- The Phoenix Suns are 7.5-point home favorites over the Brooklyn Nets in an NBA game scheduled for Tuesday, February 1
- Brooklyn has lost four games in a row
- The Nets are 10-3 straight up in their last 13 games against the Suns — see our prediction below
The Brooklyn Nets aren’t so much rolling into Phoenix to face the Suns on Tuesday as they are hobbling into town.
Riddled by injuries to key players, Brooklyn has lost four games in a row. The Nets are 0-1 on a five-game Western road trip that is including stops to face the Warriors, Suns, Jazz, Kings and Nuggets.
With apologies to the folks in Sacramento, it’s not difficult to make an argument that four of those teams are legitimate NBA title contenders.
Record-wise, the best of that bunch is up next. Phoenix is an NBA-leading 40-9. That includes a 21-5 mark for the Suns on their home court.
Oddsmakers are setting the Suns as 7.5-point favorites over the Nets. Brooklyn is 4-1 against the spread in its last five road games.
Nets vs Suns Odds
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Brooklyn Nets | +260 | +7.5 (-110) | O 229.5 (-112) |
Phoenix Suns | -320 | -7.5 (-115) | U 229.5 (-108) |
Odds as of January 31st at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Tipoff for Tuesday’s game at Footprint Arena is 10pm ET. The game is being broadcast by TNT.
With the favorite’s moneyline of -320, Phoenix is given an implied probability of victory of 76.19%. The underdog Nets show an IP of winning set at 27.78% based on a moneyline of +260.
The total has gone under in five of the Suns’ last seven games. The under was also the winning play in three of the Nets’ past five games.
Nets vs Suns Injury Report
The Nets are hopeful that three-time NBA scoring champion James Harden will be able to go in this game. He’s missed the past two games with hand and hamstring ailments.
Regardless of Harden’s status, both teams will be missing key players for this contest. Out for Brooklyn will be LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Durant. Veteran forward Aldridge suffered an ankle injury in Saturday’s loss at Golden State. Durant, a four-time NBA scoring leader, will be missing his eighth successive game with a knee issue. Guard Joe Harris (left ankle) is also out.
James Harden and Kyrie Irving have a 26-7 record together.

Suns center Deandre Ayton (ankle) will be missing his eighth straight game. Guard Landry Shamet is also out after suffering a right ankle sprain in Phoenix’s last game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Brooklyn Nets Betting Trends
Harden’s value to the team was on display in the last game he played on Jan. 25. He recorded his ninth triple double of this season and 67th of his career with 33 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists against the Los Angeles Lakers.

One piece of good news for the Nets is that since they are on the road, guard Kyrie Irving can play every game. He’s ineligible to play games in New York because he’s not been vaccinated for COVID-19. In the eight games that Irving has played, he’s averaging 24.5 points. He scored a season-high 32 points against the Warriors.
Someone needs to get the Nets going. Brooklyn has lost four games in a row and are 6-11 over the past 17 games. Oddsmakers are still confident this will pass, as Brooklyn still owns the best odds to win the Eastern Conference.
Phoenix Suns Betting Trends
No matter what happens in this game, Phoenix has already clinched the best 50-game start in franchise history. Three times, the Suns were 39-11 after 50 games. That includes the 2006-07 season, when Phoenix’s star players was Nets coach Steve Nash.

Impressively, Phoenix has won 11 games in a row. Amazingly, it isn’t even close to the club’s best run of success this season. Earlier, the Suns fashioned a franchise-record 18-game winning streak.
Nets vs Suns Prediction
Brooklyn has fared well against Phoenix. The Nets are 10-3 straight up and 9-4 ATS in the last 13 games against the Suns. They’ve also been solid at Phoenix. Brooklyn is 5-1 ATS in the club’s last six road games played against the Suns.

However, it’s hard to pick the Nets with the run of injuries they’re enduring. As well, Phoenix won 113-107 at Brooklyn on Nov. 27. Small forward Devin Booker paced the Suns with 30 points in that game. Point guard Chris Paul, who dished out a career-high 19 assists in his last game, was good for 22 points against the Nets.
Sharps are on the Suns, and I am as well. Take Phoenix to cover.
