It’s NBA basketball from Paris, France, as the San Antonio Spurs (19-22, 12th in West) take on the Indiana Pacers (24-19, 5th in East), in the first of a two-game set. Action tips off Thursday afternoon at 2pm ET, from Accor Arena in Paris, with coverage provided by NBA TV. Despite this being a virtual home game for the Spurs and their French phenom Victor Wembanyama, the Pacers are listed as slim favorites in Thursday’s NBA odds.

NBA player props from DraftKings Sportsbook on January 22.

With all eyes on Wemby, the books have given him the highest scoring prop of 26.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. While he is averaging better than 13 rebounds in eight January games, his scoring isn’t near the prop.

Save for a 35-point night on January 3 against the Denver Nuggets, the second-year pro has gone Under 27 points in seven straight games, with Wembanyama’s scoring high 23, which he’s hit twice.

Indiana’s Pascal Siakam is the only other player with a prop over 20 points, at 20.5. He’s cashed that figure in five of his his last six outings.

Teammate Tyrese Haliburton has the highest assist prop at 8.5. Fifth in the NBA at 8.8 assists per contest, Haliburton is averaging 9.5 assists in eight January games, topping that total four times, and finishing with exactly eight assists three other occasions.

San Antonio Spurs vs Indiana Pacers Predictions

  • Spurs vs Pacers pick: Pacers -2.5 (-105)

The Pacers are coming off a 115-102 beating of the Philadelphia 76ers.

While Philly isn’t exactly a powerhouse, Indiana isn’t messing around with any opponent, winning by 10 or more points in all eight of their wins during this streak, which includes the East-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.

A Top-10 scoring unit, the Pacers have upped their output to a crisp 117.2 points per game over the last nine, shooting 50% from the field and 37.4% from 3-point range.

Couple that with a defense that is holding opponents to to 105.9 points and 45.4% from the field and a grim 31.5% from beyond the arc, and you get a team with a +11.3-point differential during this fun run.

San Antonio starts the day two games back of the Phoenix Suns for the 10th seed in the West and the final play-in berth. They’ve been sliding of late, having lost three straight and getting crushed in the process. After losing a 2-game set at home to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Spurs were belted 128-107 by the Miami Heat.

Overall, the Spurs have just a single win in their last seven. Defensively, they are bleeding points, allowing teams to score 122.3 points per game, with shooting splits of 48% from the field and 39.9% from beyond the arc. Their offense isn’t covering up those problems, either. San Antonio is putting up just 112.3 points per game. Perhaps a matchup with the Pacers might help: the Spurs have won three of the last four meetings, and have covered as underdogs in in those three wins.

But it will be the first meeting between these teams this season, and the Spurs have caught the Pacers at the worst moment. The Pacers are 8-1-0 against the spread in the last nine, and have won and covered the spread in six straight. The French crowd will get a closeup look at their star Wemby — and another Spurs L.
