Beginning with the Hawks in Philadelphia and Timberwolves in Washington at 7:10pm ET, Monday night is busy around the NBA with 10 games on the schedule. Jayson Tatum and the Celtics host the Hornets, while the high-flying Cleveland Cavaliers travel north to take on the Toronto Raptors.
Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons are massive favorites over the lowly Orlando Magic, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the Oklahoma City Thunder against Zion Williamson and the Pelicans in New Orleans. The underachieving Chicago Bulls are in Utah to face the slumping Jazz. Devin Booker and De’Aaron Fox duel in north California.
The night wraps up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis facing Tyrese Haliburton’s feisty Indiana Pacers.

Pick #1: Deandre Ayton Over 17.5 Points
Phoenix taking on the Kings is the pick of Monday’s games. If the Suns are to get a win in Sacramento, they need another big night from Deandre Ayton, who has been spectacular of late. The Suns are narrow underdogs for their trip to Golden 1 Center.
Sacramento, of course, are trending in the right direction despite consecutive losses. They are 7-3 over the last 10, but still place in the bottom 10 in defense over that period. Ayton has dropped 28 on 13 shots and 29 on 19 shots in his last two games. With Cam Johnson and Chris Paul out, Ayton has seen his usage soar. Whether being fed by Cam Payne and Devin Booker or going to work on his own, Ayton has been a force to be reckoned with.

It is a positive of the Kings’ defense that they tend to funnel opponents to the mid-range. Ayton, though, is in the 97th percentile among bigs in the share of his shots from mid-range, and he’s above average in efficiency on such shots. He is also a reliable finisher in the restricted area, shooting over 80% at the rim. This is an area of weakness for the Kings with Domantas Sabonis playing the five — only six teams allow a higher percentage on shots at the basket.
Ayton’s season-long numbers might seem a bit low to suggest the over is worth backing here. His recent performances, the defensive weaknesses of the Kings and the pace this game will be played at make the over a really good wager, however.
Pick: Deandre Ayton over 17.5 points (-104)
Pick #2: Zach Lavine Over 26.5 Points & Assists
Chicago have struggled to start the season, contributing to them being underdogs against the Utah Jazz. Zach Lavine has been at the center of debate, yet has put up some decent numbers.
Lavine’s season averages of 21 points and 4.1 assists do not indicate this is a good over to back. He has passed this line in three of his last five games, however, and his averages since sitting out against Toronto earlier this month have been tanked by a four-point, two-assist performance at home to the Magic. Lavine faces a Jazz defense on Monday night which ranks 29th over the last 10 games, and gives up a lot of long twos, which is where Lavine finds a lot of his offense.

Utah has conceded 113 or more points (often a lot more) in each of their last 11 games. This roster is lacking defensive talent, and that has inevitably become a problem. They will struggle to keep this talented Bulls offense under control.
Lavine has had four or more assists in seven of his last eight, providing some insurance on this prop in case his scoring doesn’t do the job for us.
Pick: Zach Lavine over 26.5 points and assists (-122)
